Tombraider is the latest in a line of computer game to movie conversions. (Streetfighter & Super Mario Bros. also spring to mind).
Are there any games that could be adapted into good movies? or that you'd like to see.
Monkey Island is the only one that I can think of.

On a serious note, Half Life
Valve is in talks with some studios for a movie adaptation actually!

Shadowrun. I guess it would be hard making something that wouldn't look like it rips off Blade Runner at every level. But if they could capture mood of the original SNES game i think that would make quite a good movie.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - would make for a great story for the IVth installment...
Resident Evil - Oh wait, that is in production!
&
Deus Ex - Best game ever, and would probably make the best film ever too.
Ideal crew:
Director: John Woo & Ridley Scott
Producers: Jerry Bruckheimer & Joel Silver
Editor: Michael Bay
Main Cast:
JC Denton: Kyle MacLachlan
Paul Denton: John Travolta

I would love to see Half Life and Metal Gear Solid turned into a movie (ok they could be dire but i would still love to see them try)
Final Fantasy isnt really an adaptation as it uses only the name (like games different story etc). Have to admit i only saw this for the first time today and absolutely loved it, definitely going to buy it (got a lend of it from a mate)

Yeah! I'd love to see this as an animated CGI film in the style of the N64 games with the CGI being the same quality as the Final Fantasy movie but in the style of the games and written/directed by Shigeru Miyamoto! :D

if you actually play the games you'll realise its extrapolated different aspects from games in the series and then added the scifi element
"Silent Hill" first.
Then "Rise of the Triad". I lovelovelovelovelove that game. Two pistols a la Woo and Dog-mode. Wonderful.
Think I'd have to ask Mr Woo himself to direct this little number.
'soul reaver'(1+2 combined)

All they did was take a few well known elements from the Final Fantasy series, the only decent new addition was when the spirits killed people and ripped their souls out apart from that it was aliens and starship troopers, thank god Square decided against making anymore and made the extremely funny Final Fantasy Unlimted.
The Resident Evil film will be out in the middle of April and its gonna be a certificate 18, unlike the PG it was originally rumoured.
I can't belive nobody have said the following yet:
DOOM - last i heard is that the deal fell through so will never be made :(
QUAKE II - Has to be No.2 through, might be a bit close to 'borg invade the earth'

Are they really going to be able to produce half-good movies from these two though? Or would they just end up as plotless action movies? (maybe that's not a bad thing :)
Are there any 'stories' out there in the gaming world that have the capacity to be expanded into a really engrossing movie??

definately Metal Gear Solid. Snake would be so cool -- just need the right actor, a big ass budget, and a director who knows what he's doing!! then it could be one hell of a film!!
I feel sorry that Final Fantasy didn't do so well -- i personally liked it, and thought it was a good effort for the first type of film like this - although really they should have beefed up the story, and make it more fantasy and mystical like the games, at the end of the day, they could have done the film in Live Motion, and it probably would have cost less (???).

Agreed - FOA was a totally fantastic storyline - very similar to a traditional Indy film.

I'd love to see a film of Earthworm Jim, that'd be so cool. It could mix live action with animation or just go for a full CGI film. If it could retain the humour from the games and the brilliant cartoon series it'd be brilliant :)
Blade Runner

Half Life would make a great sci-fi/horror movie if done properly.
I also agree that Indiana Jones and The Fate Of Atlantis would make an excellent 4th Indy movie. The story was excellent and the characters were very memorable.
When I heard they were making a Resident Evil movie several years ago I was quite excited. Then when George Romero became involved I had high hopes. Since he has dropped out and the plot doesn't resemble the games in any way I am not really looking forward to this any more. :(

With LOTR just about to make fantasy movies the next big thing, I want to throw in my vote for a Zelda based movie
Another Vote for Zelda Here (might look like a LOTR rip-off though).

(Yes, I do have the DVD, in case you're wondering. I'm sad.)
Chuckie Egg the movie ;)
Ok it's cheating a bit but I'd like to see Alien vs Predator the film. Max Payne may make a good film then again it may make a bad 'b' movie. I'd definately be interested in any Zelda movie if it happened or possibly Baldurs Gate. What about Red Alert although I'm not sure how this would work. Silent Hill would be good if they could get the same atmosphere as in the game.
Can't really comment on Half-life yet I've only just got my hands on it

WOW! I would LOVE that, it's the only game that is better than Half Life in all possible ways.
The story is so rich, atmosphere too, and some games are just fun to play, but here I could just watch and listen to the storyline. Would definetly work as a movie.
