I'm very tempted to buy this, but I don't want to ruin the memory I have of it

Too right.
The days were around a third of the stuff shown on BBC was Black & White.
The days were BBC 1 use to not start broadcasting to mid mourning.
The days when BBC 1 used to then shut down for a few hours in the afternoon.
The days when we were told to to "switch off our television sets & go & do something else instead"
The days when we used to all have a crush on one of the Why Dont You presenters, & then would be gutted when they changed them all for the next series.
The days of Banana Splits (one banana, two banana, three banana more...)
The days of other Black & White shows, such as Casey Jones, Snowy White Horses, & The Lone Ranger
The days where our hero was Buster Crabbe & we all marveled at his antics in Flash Gordon & Buck Rogers (should add when shown on the BBC, Im not that old to have gone to the pictures & seen them!)
The days when we all used to sing along to this (http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/children/westerns/champion.wav)

Oh, happy, happy days

OMG that's why I rarely if ever frequent the tv forum - some fool always comes up with a nostalgia trip so intense it brings a tear to my eye

oh and that WDY song suggestion was to "go and do something less boring instead" ;)

We couldn't tell, we only had a B&W telly for years.
I was amazed when I found out that Thunderbird2 was green !

"Champion the Wonder Horse,
Champion the Wonder Horse.
Like a streak of lightnin' flashin' cross the sky,
Like the swiftest arrow whizzin' from a bow,
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly,
You'll hear about him ev'rywhere you go,
The time'll come when ev'ryone will know the name of
Champion the Wonder Horse"

Insert dog barking towards the end of the song :D
