View Full Version : Nova-T USB 2.0 Freeview box
Don't know whether this is a mistake or not, but PC World (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet^QS^p=1078^QA^a=60823^QA^g=19560) have the above box listed as £59.99 instore yet as a web special at £75.36!
Surely they would have to honour the instore price if you took a screenshot with you? Product code 755531.
This is even cheaper than the likes of Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=10752757561&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=85336 who have it for £70!
BTW was looking for one for a mate to use with his laptop, otherwise the cheaper option is of course to go for a PCI card version if you want TV on your desktop PC.
Might interest someone :)
Will this work for a Mac Mini? :D

Will this work for a Mac Mini? :D
Nope. no drivers exist for the Nova-T USB 2.0 on mac yet.
Elgato make DTV stuff for macs. I have their EyeTV for DTT (it's a TerraTec Cinergy T2) and it works well on my mac mini.
This site: http://www.defyne.org/dvb/ is working on a standard framework for third party drivers for DTV on mac, no Nova-T USB 2 drivers yet (think it's because of the newer chipset used). I have not been able to get this to work with the T2 even though it's meant to be supported.

PC World (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet^QS^p=1078^QA^a=60823^QA^g=19560) used to reduce it to 60pounds in April. So, I don't think it is a mistake.
Pls have a look here: http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364299&highlight=nova
Not a mistake - saw it advertised in and on the shelves of both the Braehead and Stirling stores at £59.99.
Bought one and have been very impressed so far - using it with ShowShifter which seems a lot better than the included software :)

Oic. Thanks for the heads up.

I've seen a couple of these fitted through a blanking plate which makes them sort of internal cards. You need to be able to connect internally to an USB motherboard connection somehow, or feed cables back into the case, which kind of defeats the object. OK for say a SFF PC or even a mATX case where you are short of PCI slots and you don't want external bits hanging off all over the place. You could even punch a couple of holes in the back of the case.

 Got a bit confused by this (guess I should be going to sleep ;) ) !!
I originally read it as the web site being cheaper than instore hence you saying to take a screenshot in, but as you're saying instore its cheaper anyway so I would guess you don't need to take a screen shot in and they should honour it anyway, assuming its in stock !!
From looking at the spec I take it this is not one of those than can be used with a TV OR PC, bust just with a PC ..
But of course! I'm being a right plonker!
PC/laptop use only AFAIK
I bought one of these today in PC World for £59.99, works a treat, took 5 mins to set up with no hassle whatsoever. Can't find the Teletext option anywhere and there doesnt seem to be an EPG option tho... but that might be me not paying much attention.
thanks to op

A stupid question but does this need to be connected to a dish or aerial?
Edit: Ebuyer suggests a rooftop aerial. I know using the freeview postcode checker it suggests that we might need a new aerial due to the frequency it transmits at but how likely is this?

How long is a piece of string? It totaly depends on the aerial you currently have and the signal strength in your location.
If you are close to a transmitter with reasonable line of sight, then having an aerial designed for a diferent band won't matter as much as if you are in a fringe reception area. I have a very old aerial which is literaly hanging off my eaves at a very suspicious angle (really must fix that before winter hits), but as I can see the transmitter mast from my window I get a good signal.
Just bumping this as I was in PC World (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet^QS^p=1078^QA^a=60823^QA^g=19560) this morning and they had an end display of these cards stating 'save £20 now £59.99'
Thought it a bit odd as it is still currently showing on their website at £75.36 with no mention of an instore price... :?:

Cheers,
bagged last one on shelf in bradford today, works much better than the twinhan I was using in MCE, no aerial amp needed to receive all channels plus it changes channels quicker too.
Didnt really want an external dvb-t box but theres plenty of room in my silverstone case for this, sits under the vfd nicely :)

Try keying your postcode in here: http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/coverage.html
This will tell you which channels - if any - you should receive.
The Freeview postcode checker only says you're in coverage if you are guaranteed to get all channels. Otherwise people might complain that they can't receive everything.

I went for the Freecom USB but got it from CCLonline as they worked out cheapest with p&p at £52 all in.Should get it tues so will post back on how good or bad it is.Looking at reviews it gets mixed reports but i suppose it depends on how good the reception is.
Can anybody who got the Nova unit recommend a good (and free) media center type program that has an epg in it?

The FREECOM USB (http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=4072&category_id=247) turned up this morning easy to setup but the supplied aerial couldnt get a signal.I live in a low signal area anyway so not really surprised.Used the house aerial and it picked up all the channels.I will try it on the laptop tonight in another area to see if i can pick up channels with the supplied aerial.
