I have a Sony NS300 DVD player which came free with my TV which I am considering getting modified to be multi region.

What would the best mod be for this player?

I've looked at Upgrade Heaven but their info suggests that the modification wouldn't let the player play RCE discs (of which I have a couple).

Techtronics site implies that their mod can play RCE discs, but hey - its Techtronics and their mod seems much more expensive than Upgrade Heaven's.

So - is there another alternative? Does anyone have an NS300 that can play RCE and wasn't too expensive to have modified?

Thanks for your help...

We have a manually selectable RCE chip that converts the player to a True Region 1 player when you want to play RCE ... of course there is a drawback with this in that Region 1 players dont have RGB output so your TV must be able to handle the true NTSC signal that the DVD player will outout when playing RCE disks

My TV can handle NTSC without a problem, but will this result in a degradation of the picture quality (other than the usual differences between a PAL and NTSC signal)?

no .. and you will only use this restricted RCE mode on RCE disks .. the rest of the time your player will be normal
