View Full Version : BA flights to Australia for as many runs as they score in the 5th test!

According to the news on the radio this morning, British Airways (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-582776-10394106) are going to offer some flights to Australia for the total cost in pounds that Australia score in their first innings in the last test match in the Ashes series!!!
So if England bowl out the Aussies for 10 - it'll be £10 !!!!
Someone somewhere will find a link with T&Cs but sorry no time here!
COME ON ENGLAND!!
Sounds good! Can't see any mention on the press section of their website.
Come on England. :)
I believe that the number of tickets to be offered at this special price will be limited to the number of runs that England score in their first innings. So it will certainly be a first come first served affair.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1564176,00.html
Bit more detail above
they will only put on sale a number of tickets equivalent to the number of runs England score, so if England score 10, you may not be getting a ticket.
"A special phone line (0870 850 2427) will be opened after the completion of the first two innings, with callers restricted to two tickets each"

 They announce this just after I've just forked out nearly £1000 each for tickets

Sounds like you'd have to be incredibly lucky to get hold of a ticket.
What would make it more exciting would be "book today - non-refundable" fares. Unless Australia score at an unbelieveable rate this isn't likely to go over £500 though I wouldn't have thought.

They already have some deals on flights to Sydney and Melbourne for around £319 (each way).
I can hear the BA rep on the other side of the phone now -
"Sorry, all those seats have already been sold. We have other special offers available from £££££££......."

It's always sad to see British firms offering stuff like this or "the item is free if England win the World Cup." It just shows that the company has absolutely no faith in our national teams

I wouldn't bet on it.
The Oval is an excellent batting wicket.
I bet British Airways wish they had started the offer on the Northern Ireland v England game last night.
It would have resulted in Zero people getting a ticket for £1 to Australia
And one person getting a free ticket to Sweden
And one person getting a free ticket to Sweden
:D  :notworthy

I noticed BA's website quotes prices out/return seperately. Any one know if the return flight will be at the same price, or subject to when you want to return. Also don't forget the taxes and other costs; about £118 on their website.
probably looking at the late 300s + tax. I think the cheapest advertised BA price is £649 inc taxes, so probably in the region of a £200 saving, that is provided you can get through. I'll be giving it a go.

The price based on the runs will include taxes. See BA website (http://generic-uk-questions.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/generic_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=3OSaP1Ph&p_lva=&p_faqid=3287&p_created=1126082955&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NCZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWF1c3RyYWxpYSZwX2NhdF9sdmwxPX5hbnl_JnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=) for full info.

As a footnote to that, BA just increased its fuel surcharge on long-haul flights by £6 each way today (as have Virgin)

With the way it's going there will only be a couple of hundred seats available!

Looking ahead to the weather forcast.....what happens if say England last out to the 350 mark tomorrow, the aussies go into bat, get say 80 runs and then the rain hits. And then it rains some more, and then it rains some more, and the match is drawn with no further play?
Then 380 people would get the chance to go for £80
... and England would win the Ashes :p

Sound. Didn't know whether they'd try and wriggle out of it due to Austrailia not completing the 2 innings.
well, looks like 373 tickets will be available ;)

This is for a return ticket isn't it, how much are they normally?
It might still only be a £50 saving, but pretty useful for anyone who was planning on flying out there soon..

It looks like this will only be worth it for anyone thinking of going at Christmas and new year, as the price rockets to the £1000 mark that time of year.

I wouldn't fly with BA even if the flight was free, they are absolutely appaling. :oh-hum: good luck to all of you who try to bag one & even more luck for those of you who spend the 24hr+ journey on board with them.

Why is this in the bargain forum? It's more like a bargainless promotional con of a competition.
BA will make the costs of the flights back many times over with people paying for the 0870 number.

Anyone noticed BA's terms and conditions (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/ba6.jsp/ashespromotcs/public/en_gb) on this?
"Valid for travel from 19th September 2005 until 30th March 2005, excluding 9th - 23rd December 2005."
Is that a TARDIS I hear materialising?
Engaged. What a suprise :)
