Media player doesnt play a file?

.....but media player classic does?

Any idea why this would be, i presumed codec but it plays on classic but not the latest one, it says "encountered an unknown error" and before this it is searching for a codec?

What format is the file, i.e .avi/.mpeg/.rm/.mov ?
