Hi,

I was going to change my CPU heatsink and I haven't done this in a while, but last time I cleaned it with some iso propyl alcohol - but I don't have any lying around.

Does anyone know where I can get this from (some where high streety?) and how much it costs?

Cheers

I've always used white spirit..

Iso-whatsit is available at the chemist, I believe.

You can get it from chemist, they will ask you what you want it for, it cost about £2.

You can use nail polish remover to get rid of any chunky bits followed by a dose of iso propyl alcohol to give the HS a final clean.

If you used something like Artic Silver before, then this will just wipe off with a bit of kitchen towel - no need for any solvert.

One good reason not to use just any thermal gooey muck...

Not too sure if it's the same stuff but white spirit will leave an oily residue so make sure you use some alcohol to fully clean the surface else you may end up with heat problems.
