New to the projector world and want to know what projector that we bought, and why??

I hate the idea of dead pixel, so LCD is out of the question, CRT is too bulky. Yes I know CRT is the best !!! I am sure everyone agrees.

DLP prjector is really taking off very fast, hoping one day it will become more and more affordable

Also, I have 2 more questions, Don't u find it difficult to run the cable from projector to dvd player (too long and revealing). Second is screen, there are so many different price range, which one should I choose???

Howdo,

Had a DLP projector for a while.

Whilst it was *very* nice for movies, it felt way to vulgar to watch extra's on. Also, it didn't have a TV tuner, so I had to rig it to the VHS recorder to permit normal tv viewing.

Circumstances changed very shortly after selling it, and now I have a dedicated AV room. It probably would have been ideal.

If you can find one with the requisite inputs and modes, all is good and well.

My niggles were:
I found SVideo to be a little lacking (dot crawl in the reds)
My model didn't support anamorphic modes.
It was noisy.
Very.
It made a different noise when playing NTSC. (I had her acoustically dampened for PAL).
Black values left a little to be desired (although a grey screen overcame some of this).
Some light bled around the frame (a black border on the screen beat this too).
Boy could she get hot.

Believe me, some of the above were really noticeable on a 6ft tall screen. On the other hand, hey, its a 6ft tall picture, with zero overscan and no distortion.

If you can site the projector so its not between you and screen (and isn't too near your ears) you'll probably love it. I'd dive into the sticky official home cinema setups thread and check out some of the rigs.

Cheers,

Thanks for your input. Yes these are all the problems for a projector. I will be looking using component connection, also must have 16:9 mode, etc

BTW which DLP projector do you have. I am sure the newer DLP all have 16:9 mode. Some LCD PJ do not have it because the target business use

I had the Davis DL450. It was a dual purpose data/video projector. Most of the noise was generated by a spinning disc that controlled R G B, so that may have been peculiar to that model.

The screen was homemade, and lined with black electrical tape so I can't really comment on that.

Oh, make sure you can keystone correct and invert if need be. A variable zoom is useful in setup, and the greater ratio of screen size to throw distance the better.

BTW: You may have to leave the projector in standby for a while before you move it (assuming its not a permanent fixture) as frequent handling when hot will kill the bulb prematurely.

Whatever you're spending, save yourself £2.99 for a torch. When you've blacked the room out and turned off the projector, you aint gonna see nothing...

Well, Jason, do u like it then?? Anything that you don't like?

Any dead pixel? One thing that worries me is buying LAC projector via website, cause you may end up with a projector with a lot of distracting dead pixel, and difficult customer service.

i'm fairly happy with it !! couple of little problems (wont work with origional playstation)
had problem with some region 2 dvd's using component input but now that i have changed my dvd player it seems to have been sorted

no i havent got any dead pixels at the moment (touch wood)

i want to go the crt route but at the moment havent got the room so having a little lcd projector was the answer
