View Full Version : Looks like we're getting the Criterion Collection version of 'The Rock' in R2!!1111
Look here (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/6c58504cd644dcd5802566a4004a5ef9/961de0f3d02f04d580256b1b00314cb6?OpenDocument).
its about bloody time !!!!!!!1
Have they resubmitted the uncut print to get the 15seconds (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/ClassifiedWorks/5da5c5d9d8f5df818025660b000c49e6?OpenDocument&AutoFramed&BaseTarget=BBFCLower) put back?! Knife in the neck is still a bit strong for a 15 cert methinks - can they bump it to an 18?
Good find Jodrell!!!!:D
I don't care how good Criterion are they are still bleedin expensive. Hopefully R2 will get the dts soundtrack too.
Also it's worth noting that there's more swearing in the commentary track and deleted scenes than in the whole movie!
So unless this gets bumped to a 18 - I can see it losing stuff.
I wouldn't be surprised if a few things get lost like the DTS track. The one thing I miss on the armageddon release is the gag reel but an anamorphic transfer took over so......

Where was the "knife in the neck" bit?
Knife in the neck bit
When Mason and Goodspeed enter the morgue before the gun fire starts Mason throws a knife [cue: Sam Raimi Knife Cam] that hits a guy plum-in-the-neck! BLAOW!
...this was cut in ALL versions of The Rock, thus avoiding an 18, in the UK (Cinema, VHS, DVD) so unless you've seen the uncut R1 or the odd uncut screening on SKY. You won't have seen it!

Nice!!
Is there a good chance that they'll keep it?
I've never seen that bit before:(

Well unless the swearing includes a certain coloquial slang term for the female genitalia the begins with "c" and rhyms with "shunt", I can't see this being a problem.
Knife in the neck though - definately! Hate to put a downer on things, but the BBFC have been sticking pretty rigidly to their absurd "no higher certificate than that previously awarded" policy ...

Makes me so friggin' angry that.
The BBFC should encourage distributours to release films uncut, not stand in there way.

:D
Well I suppose he could still get away with it, if it isn't directed at a woman, as Withnail and I got away with two uses when it was re-classified recently (yes, I know, the board's policy over this naughty synonym gets more incongruous and amusing by the month).
BTW it's directed at an elevator door with much venom!
Speaking of the 'C' word it wasn't until i watched Being John Malkovich again recently that i realised Malkovich's Agent say's it about the lady in reception.!!!
Anyway hijack over:D

Well I don't believe the BBFC have explicitly mentioned their policy towards elevator doors being denigrated with the word in question previously, so this could be a very important test-case.

Got round to watching the film from my crit dvd set the other day and noticed this. Love it! I am glad this classic is now getting the set it deserves.
Good news indeed, and I guess if the BBFC do decide to cut it (which is pretty likely unfortunately) you could always get it from mainland Europe (provided it gets released there of course, which it should do), thereby giving the BBFC a proverbial two-fingered salute.
I guess we won't be seeing an R4 release of this soon, as the bare-bones re-release of this was only a few weeks ago.

Have Buena Vista UK released a title with DTS yet?
Have Buena Vista UK released a title with DTS yet? Good Point...

I doubt it will be The Rock though - they decided not to with Pearl Harbor or Unbreakable which where huge releases. Unless BV has a great deal with Criterion, I don't think they will give them the DTS track they created specially for the DVD IMO!
