If nobody else shows up - how bout divying Latvia up between the 3 "better" players (who should at least make sure the the games get played) - i.e. one group game each.
Alternatively, if you're REALLY struggling I could take two teams as I'm off all next week

It's ok everyone, Stevie's jinxed me again :D

Had a few goes with them and individually they don't look too good but not a bad side, strong in tackles which suits me!

I'll be busy Mon/Tues lads but might be about, but then got rest of the week off so I'll be free most of the time.

Group A Result

Portugal 1 - 1 Greece

I was gutted when you equalized in the 92min. That said you deserved it, you dominated the 2nd half and had a goal disallowed so consider myself quite fortunate.

Really, sorry I lost connection on your home fixture, I rebooted router, when I tried to accept your 2nd invite it failed and saw you had gone offline.
I'm happy to replay fixture tomorrow, and start with you leading 1-0.

Let me know when you will be on mate.

ianmb All I can say is WOW! 2 fantastic games which had everything.
Dissallowed Goals, Own Goals, missed penalties etc.

I had so much fun I have forgotten the exact scoreline  I remember us getting a share of the spoils with 3points each but forgot the scores.

Great Games mate, and I was sweating like I had played 90mins by the final whistle.

These games were absolutely crazy. In the second game I had 55% of the possession but you had 17 shots at goal. My own goal was pure class and I had to substitute the keeper eventually. Add in a missed penalty and a own goal from you and the games had everything.

The results were:

Portugal 3 -1 Spain
Spain 2 - 1 Portugal

After the home game where I had 9 shots on target and missed three clear one on ones and you scored with about 8mins to go I thought this is the way it's gonna be with the Latvians (to be fair you could've scored 4 in this game).

But the away game was the opposite, few chances and a bit of Latvian magic

Thanks for replaying the earlier match, the connection was much better second time around.

2 (or should I say 3 or 4!) good games, the second could have gone either way and it was very realistic the way you broke away and scored the winner while I was still claiming the penalty. Well played and thanks for the games.

2 very very close games, the ball spent most of the time in midfield and could have gone either way, and I was very fortunate to walk away with 4 points.

However I was dumped out of the last cup in round 1 thanks to Slocombe so must admit that revenge has never tasted sweeter

Good games mate  Really struggled with the pace of your players especially owen and rooney as everytime they went forward it was always a great chance. Very pleased to take the win which should hopefully put me into the next round.

The first game was 4-2, wasn't it? I can't remember. Not that it really matters, anyway. The second was a 'ding-dong battle between the two teams', as Peter Bracknel would say. I would've won if not for your cynical, 'hack people down when they're through on goal' approach

Definitely 3-1  I had to do it. I was getting so frustrated as I was having to play my way up the field and wait for the perfect moment to release the ball whereas you only needed to put it anywhere near owen and rooney and they latched on to it and were through.

If you noticed though I only made "challenges" when i could see an extra defender around so I wouldn't get sent off ;)

Close, scores were

Greece 4-0 Russia
Russia 2-1 Greece

Not that it matters a jot.

I hate Russia. In all 6 games I have had chances but have ended with only 4 points. Defence is Keystone Kops like (IanMB's 2nd goal in our first game) and the strikers wear 50p shaped boots that give shots at crazy angles :brickwall  :cuckoo:  (and any other icons that fit my mood  )

Of course, their performances were nothing at all to do with me ;)

The final games have been played. Germany's results have been declared void in Group D and Latvia progress due to a better head to head record with the Czech Republic.

The quarter-final line up is:

Greece v Switzerland
England v Spain
Denmark v Latvia
Holland v Bulgaria

Let's try and get the games played a.s.a.p.

Knockout stages rules:

- games are played over two 10 minute legs. The first named player hosts the first game.

- settings are as per the league games.

- the aggregate score over the two legs determines who progresses to the next round.

- away goals count double

- if scores are tied over two legs then the first named player hosts a five minute game with penalties set to on.

I checked the UEFA website and what Zboniek said is true. The same rules were being talked about last week when Scotland played Norway in the World Cup qualifiers. The late goal Scotland conceded means that we have to have finish with more points or a better goal difference than the Norwegians. If we hadn't conceded the late goal then simply finishing on the same points as Norway would suffice as we would have had the better goal difference from the games between the two countries (2-1).

So despite having a worse goal difference Latvia go through!

England 4 - 2 Spain

England win 6-4 on aggregate.

Going 2-0 down after 5 minutes in the first game didn't help me much. Still they were two good games and Rooney behaved himself!

Just seen your message.
Am at work today so it would be after 8pm tonight before I'm on anyway.

......is the Ghoul a better player than PP? Are you playing a half each?
It's only Latvia :n0rty:

QF Result

Switzerland 1 - 1 Greece
Greece 1 - 1 Switzerland

Rematch:

Greece 2 - 1 Switzerland

3 Very tight games, really could of gone either way. Thankfully my change of formation seemed to work in the 3rd and managed to get 2 early golas and just hang on.
Well played mate.

Anyone round for the semis?

QF result:

Greece 1-1 Switzerland
Switzerland 1-1 Greece
Greece 2-1 switzerland

Can't believe I went out there :oh-hum: First game you get a last minute equaliser that I just didn't move for and second game I passed you the ball in my box to equalise again. In the third game you were deservedly 2-0 up at half time but a change in formation and dominance really should have given me the equaliser I deserved. I'm not bitter :suspect:

Good luck in the semis mate

Greece 1 Latvia 0
Latvia 3 Greece 2

Greece on away goals (unless he doesn't wanna play the final ) :n0rty:

Every one of our games have been good stuff.

Wasn't the Latvia performance night and day - 1st game I had no attempts on goal at all.
Home game I could've won by a couple more if it wasn't for a combo of your keeper and my poor attackers.
Cheers

Cheers mate, I always come away from our games with my thumbs aching such is the level of effort needed. First games could of swung a bit better in my favour, as the second should for you.

If England/Holland play tonight, i can play the winner. I will be on till late. If they don't you had better win the cup! :p

A good couple of very close games, that was never a penalty for holland in the second game though - Nistelrooy went down like a sack of poo

ianmb

So that should be Greece v Holland in the final but Gunn0r is on holiday.

Two options:

- Zboniek progresses at the expense of Gunn0r by default and Holland play Lativia in the final.

- The final is delayed until Gunn0r returns from his holiday and Greece play Holland in the final.

I'd prefer option two so not to deny Gunn0r his chance of final glory but it is up to Mr Spoons and Zboniek to agree to this as Gunn0r is prepared to step aside.

Let me know what you think.

Zboniek
19-09-2005, 21:45
As Latvia have nothing to lose then we accept the challenge of Holland. Although MrSpoons has beaten me twice already in the group so I don't hold out much hope.

MrSpoons can then take on Gunner when he returns in order to prove himself a worthy champion

How long is Gunner away for?

MrSpoons with holland could be worth an eachway bet as well.

Any chance you could get the lottery results for this week as well?

European Championship Final

Greece (gunner) 5 - 1 (Mr Spoons) Holland

Holland 1 - 1 Greece

6-2 Aggregate Win Ti Greece

Cant really comment on the first to goals as they were scored a couple of nights ago, so re replayed the first game and just set the score to 2-0 at halftime.
The second half will probably go down as one of the jammiest games I have ever played. My gung-ho formation just seemed to catch the Dutch by suprise and give me space to score some lucky goals. I do not think that I have ever seen Greece perform so well in front of goal before. My keeper was also insptrational to stop chance after chance fron Holland. After all their good play it was ironic that Hollands goal came from a penalty that was a tad dubious. :suspect:

Second game I knew what to expect when Holland had 3 good chances in the first minute. Took an absolute battering form then on in and just seemed to get the vital header or block when it counted most. Holland scored with a nice finish to lead 1-0 and then Greece managed to level with another good finish. Held on the rest of the game by taking of my all attack formation and battoning down the hatches.

Well played mate, good games.
