I've just seen this at Play.

Haven't noticed it before - has it been out long or has the release been overlooked?

Wondering if anyones seen it, and what they think of the extras.

One of my favourite films, and I've been killing myself trying to resist the bog-standard £7.99 release.

Been out a few months now. Around the time of the oliver stone box set.

Hours of extras. Commentary, Deleted Scenes with commentary, Documentary you name it.

Well worth the investment.

You can get the two disk JFK on R4 for about £11 delivered from www.devoted.com.au all wrapped up in a lovely double Alpha case.

Cheers for that. What are devoted.com like - how long does it take to deliver, any postage charge, etc.

Also, anyone know the exchange rate to Aus $ - is it about 1£:3$??

DeVoteD are the best R4 supplier IMO. Nearly always the cheapest and have dealt with any problems I have had very promptly.

Anyway JFK is here (http://www.devoted.com.au/mod-cgi/store/store.cgi?&shop=devoted&cart=60478064x9880&session=3c108c0a2698d270&L=eng&P=000708) and works out at.....

$29.71 - 9% GST ($2.67) = $27.04

$27.04 + $3.60PP (tough bag with disk sleeve) = $30.64

$30.64 = £11.06 (assuming £1 = AUS$2.77)

Hope that helps:)

Is the R4 Just as good then? I hate snappers so the alpha would be preferable.. it is also the director's cut of the film?

Alanok

The R4 is exactly the same as the R1 AFAIK only in a double Alpha case. Loads of extras on the second disc, commentaries etc and yes it is the full three hour directors cut epic.

Great. Looks like I'll be getting that then. Someone recorded it for me in the summer when I was away and just watched it about a week ago. I was blown away!! Can someone please say if the version I saw on TV is the director's cut? Which is better? Thanks!

the version on TV was the standard cut.

I understand that the only R2 with the extra footage is the the Ollie Stone Collection.

Thanks...

About the box set, I wasn't too impressed with Heaven and Earth. Is Any Given Sunday good? Platoon is superb though! :)

If you've got the snapper version, download the cover and stick it in a double Amaray.

LOL. Of course that is what Baps wants me to do. OK, is there anywhere where you can find an amaray cover to print for the R2 version? :) If so, I'll buy a few amarays from you :) hehe..

Is Nixon good? :)

"Nixon" is not just good, it's great. Stone's second best film after "Salvador". Not what you'd call comfortable or easy viewing, but it outstrips "JFK" in just about every way I can think of. Anthony Hopkins gives one of the finest performances of the last ten years, the rest of the cast are on top form and the film packs a hefty emotional punch.

Following on from threads lately, I'd have to disagree with you again Mike. From someone who studied the Watergate scandal, and even the presidency of Nixon, i found the film to be emotionally lacking and narratively bland. It's one of Stone's worst films IMO, and JFK knocks it for six, as does Platoon, Wall Street, Born On The Fourth Of July, The Doors and even Any Given Sunday.

I just want a decent Nixon SE set to be released given the short section I saw on TV a few months ago got me interested in the movie.

As to Watergate, if you want a decent movie, buy All The Presidents Men. I read the books of Woodward & Bernstein after first viewing the film and needless to say, they go into much more detail than a movie ever could.

If you're interested in a bit of reading, look for All The Presidents Men, The Final Days, and for the consipiracy theorists, Silent Coup, which if I remember the reviews correctly, claims Woodward was recruited whilst in the Army to help bring down Nixon (I've yet to read the book, so the exact content is unknown to me as yet).

Silent Coup is an excellent read, but should be taken with a pinch of salt. I think it implies that John Dean was interested in breaking into the Watergate offices because it contained a black book revealing names involved in a high class hooker ring, including himself.

I think it's absolutely superb. I'm a big fan of Stone and his view of America and also a keen follower of American Football and the NFL so Any Given Sunday couldn't be a more perfect combination! :)

I knew nothing about american football, but I loved it... Not as good as a lot of Stone's work but excellent nonetheless.
