My pc at work has a dvd (sony dvd-rom DDU1612) and a Cd (Apapi CD-RW 52max) drive and you don't see them on "My Computer". When I go into device manager, I get the ! against the drives. When i click porperties I get this message:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

If I delete the drivers and reload them I still get the same problem!

Anyone got any ideas what's wrong? :?:

Sounds like an IDE bus problem, possibly...either that or the CD drive firmware has gone potty. Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure the CD drive is enabled in there?

Have you got the drivers for the unit downloaded from the web? Have you tried using "Update Drivers" instead of deleting the unit and letting Windows re-install the drivers?

Thans for the reply fishboy:

Bios seems fine. Have the latest drivers and yes I've tried to let windows update the drivers but it says I have the latest ones. The drives used to work but now nothing :?: I checked for viruses, spyware etc but nothing.

Good Old Code 39.

I believe this is a registry issue and when i have seen this on machines before it has usually been a case of reinstalling Windows to resolve.
