Hi there

I have just received my refurbed Canon 300D and I think it needs to go back :(

I have taken a couple of photos just to test and there is a mark on all of them. The mark is a small grey blob at the 12 o'clock position.

The mark is in exactly the same place on all the photos - it appears when using flash or not.

I have checked the lens and the camera mirror (non technical term there!)and cannot see nothing obvious that would cause the mark.

Heres a link to a couple of the photos taken to show the mark clearly.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to what the problem is please.

A blob of something on the sensor - see the dust bunnies thread. If you can clean it off, not an issue.

Hi, it could be a spot of dust on the sensor.

Dust/mark on the sensor.

Nothing on the mirror will show up in a picture as that is purely to show the image through the viewfinder and it flips up out of the way when you take a shot.

There's an option in the menus somewhere to lock the mirror up in "cleaning mode" or similar, or you could take a long exposure (but that's a bit scarier :D), to get at the CCD for cleaning.

There's a few threads about dealing with cleaning CCDs  (I'm not going to offer specific advice because I'm not totally clue up on what would be safe objects to hand to clean with to be honest - I've got Pec pads and Eclipse fluid here from Warehouse Express)

Thanks for the replies.

I am not sure I am happy poking around inside of a camera that I have only had a matter of 2 hours.

I think I will contact the seller and see what happens.

I am extremely cheesed off !!

To be honest even new cameras often come with dust in. This is unavoidable in a system where you can remove lenses.

Why not do a mirror lock up and take a quick peak? Its a big looking bunny, it may even by visible so you might be able to blow it off.

Although dry your lips first in case you inadvertently spit all over it :D

Bullet bitten !!

Reasonably large spec of dust removed extremely carefully with a corner of a plastic bag - can highly recommend using plastic bags from now on as the dust stuck to it no problems.

Big thanks to you all. :notworthy
