Do any companies offer a dead pixel guarentee? I'm looking to buy a tft, but my worst nightmare is to spend 300quid and it have a dead pixel!!

Doing a search, it appears that the online shop called "Aria" offers a "Dead Pixel Check" for £20.

You could give them a call to check.

Dead Pixels (shoot me here) are actually quite rare I would think. You always see people going "OMG I have 4 dead pixels!!!111" but do people who have a fully working screen post about their positive experience? Not much they don't!

£20 to check a screen for dead pixels? Mad :cuckoo:

I had a 20" dell screen (2001fp I think) and I found about 12 faults on it :(

1 stuck on bright white pixel and about 11 or so (was hard to decide) bad sub pixels.
The thing is, I'm happy to admit I'm a fussy sod, and it would have been possible for someone else (in a bright office or something) to never have noticed the sub pixels at all.
They were only really noticable when looking close in a dark room (I play dark games in a dark room)
I really put me off buying another unless I can get some kind of way of throwing it back if the same thing happens again.

My TFT has a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. At first, I was obsessed by it: my eyes would be drawn to it all the time and it seemed like an irritating piece of grit which mocked me constantly.

After a while, though, I stopped thinking about it and now I don't see it at all unless I really look for it.

At the end of the day, it's a tiny dot and really not worth worrying about. The manufacturer (LG) said I could exchange the monitor but, what with my record of exchanging something with a minor defect for something with a major one or worse (as happened when I went through 6 TVs not so long ago and still ended up with one which is worse than the one I started with), I never bothered.

Do distance selling laws mean that you can send something back if it does have a dead pixel, even if a company says you cant~?

Ohhhhhhh, that's a debate that has raged many a time in various places.

I think if you don't (Obviously) use it - Even though personally I think you have the right to TRY the product, how else do you know if it is as described in the advert.

But it's better (If you were to try and return it) to return it due to OTHER reasons. (if you get my drift)

I'm still not sure (and heard it said) that this whole deap pixel get out policy by the manufacturors is not actually legal anyway and it just (like many things) a made up (by them) thing which they hope people will just go along with.

Perhaps someone else will be able to explain more

Working in IT and having done several rollouts, I would tend to agree with you there. I must've seen 100s of TFTs and the number of screens with dead pixels has been less than ten, possibly less than five. I've never seen one with two or more.

Having said that, even one would hack me off if it were my monitor, so if I was especially concerned I don't think £20 is too much to pay for peace of mind!

Dell are quite good with returns. The indians don't understand what you're trying to get at half the time, eventually they just arrange for a replacement anyway :thumbs:

I doubt a company earning billion dollar profits are bothered about a few returns...Hell they'll just refurb them and sell them out eventually

I paid for the dead pixel check from Aria, they only gaurentee it for 48 hours after delivery. Mine arrived with no dead pixels but about 10 days later one died, it's not too noticable though as it's towards the side of the screen. Still annoying I wasted money on the checking service, I would say what happened to me is quite rare.

|My new tft at work has one near the middle and that is quite annoying especially when the screen is dark (it glows green)

Our company recently bought 20 Laptops direct from NEC for rental purposes. Of the 20, 6 had dead pixels. 2 or 3 on each. I phoned them up and they sent me their policy on 'dead pixel returns'. 12 individual or 2 conjoined are the minimum they will accept for a return. Cheeky nobs.

I've installed loads of TFTs and only seen literally a couple with deal pixels. One was really bad and had a clump of them, so RMA'd it, the other has a single one, that glows red, so is noticeable quite a lot of the time Not too bothered about it though, and it's the third monitor in my 3-TFT (2 * 17, 1 * 15) setup on my office PC.

Yep, perhapse 1 in 10 screens (of a good make) will have a dead pixel these days. Recently had a decent iiyama which had a splodge of dead pixels - they swapped it next day with no hassle. CTX used to do screens with a 6 month Zero dead pixel guarantee, and Neovo still do on some of their screens...

If you buy from somewhere like PC World (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet^QS^p=1078^QA^a=60823^QA^g=19560) I think I read somewhere that they will be happy to power it up first and check for dead pixels before you buy.
