I thought Zombie was rubbish although the actual look of the zombies is great.
The George Romero Dead series is much better imo.
Well, I can suggest The Beyond. Good all round gory zombie film. It's not a particularly good dialogue film... but it's got quite a bit of gore. :)
Dellamore Dellamorte and Romero's dead series, you can watch them for the plot and dialogue

The Beyond has got a sh@t load of atmosphere and a pretty cool soundtrack too
The soundtrack is truly excellent. Especially the opening credits. :)
I've seen worse films than Zombie Holocaust but not often thank God.
I'd recommend the "Return of the living dead" trilogy and BioZombie, a strange Japanese(?) movie that starts out as some sort of teen drama, then goes slapstick, then goes into full zombie action, then into an amazingly, oh, I'll let you find out.....
I also second the vote for Dellamore Dellamorte. A SUPERB film. And not your usual zombie movie either.

Are you a film critic with The Sun by any chance? :D
Day of the Dead. IMO the best and most intelligent horror movie ever made! :)
I eventually saw "Zombie Holocaust" on the Stonevision DVD (uncut, I believe) and thought the movie was in fact poo, but not unlikeable. Glad I checked it out, but once was enough.
The Romero movies are the yardstick for zombie movies. "Dawn of the Dead" is up for a special R1 release in 2002/2003 from Anchor bay. Hope they revisit "Day of the Dead" which, I agree, a cracker and a worthy follow up to "Dawn". "Dawn" is rumoured to be up for a remake, but the jury is out on that as an idea.
If you get Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond", get the US Anchor Bay release. A truly special special edition. I love the movie (plus a few other from Lucio) but Spaghetti Splatter is not to everyone's taste. But then, "The Beyond" is the best way to find out!!!
If you like that, check out "City of the Living Dead" afterwards.
Haven't seen "Biozombie" or "Dellamorte Dellamore", but intend to. The latter's got an anamorphic release in Italy, which is nice.
"Living Dead at Manchester Morgue" (released in US as "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie" is fun.
Lastly, the movie version of "Resident Evil" should soon be here!!!! Fingers very crossed on this one.
Will shut up now.

Biozombie & Dellamorte Dellamore are 2 very good zombie flicks, but both lean more towards comedy thatn straight scares!! Let's face it though, the best zombie films have a few laughs in em!!
The R0 Mei AH DVD of Biozombie is actually pretty good, for a non-anamotphic transfer of a low budget HK flick! You can get it for around £6 delivered from DDDHouse (http://www.dddhouse.com).
