Hi there. This has a big spoiler so don't read on if you haven't seen it.....
At the cinema, I remmeber when Mason Verger was pushed n with the pigs you see one sniffing at him, and then it's mouth open and the sceen suddendly goes all red. On the dvd (r1), i'm sure it's a little different... they approach him, it's mouth opens, and then with stylish photography, it shakes him about and rips him apart but all distorted for a few seconds.... did anyone else notice this? Let me know!

Hmm, not the usual cuts which get discussed around these parts. Unfortunately I'm not able to comment as:
A) I didn't see it at the cinema
B) I've got the R4 :)
However, I'd consider using the spoiler tags if I were you as someone is sure to stumble across this.
Spoiler goes here
remove the _ from before the closing ] and you get
Spoiler goes here
HTH
Edit I've just watched that scene on my R4 and it happens as you describe for the R1 so I guess that the DVD editions are identical anyway.

Yeah I know how to use the spoiler tags thnaks, but i thought there was no point as the entire message wa sone, so i just put it in the title... thanks for looking on your r4... I'm sure it's slightly different to at the cinema..
What I saw in the cinema is exactly what's on the dvd, No red screen etc

Cheers utero. I must be imagining it then! :)
Ahhh, reminds me of another discussion :

;)
I'm not spoilerising this post as the film is 3 years old and was JUST on tv anyway (and the word 'spoilers' is in the thread title) so don't damn well complain if you've not seen it! ;)
Does anyone know where there are screen grabs of the scene online? I've googled some but can't find anything.
I'm still convinced that was what I saw (twice) in the cinema was altered for the dvd release - I'd like to compare a film print with the (worldwide) dvd version.
If I have to get hold of a theatrical release print to prove it I will - 3 years later and it's STILL bugging the hell outta me that no-one believes it was altered for the dvd and that the people who say it was must all have their minds playing tricks on them!
(the 'behind-the-scenes at the first screening' on the dvd is inconclusive because that cuts between the cinema screen and the viewers watching - there is no continuous footage of the scene as it played out on the screen).
This is one of those annoying cinematic conundrums and I'd really like to prove that I am correct. I know that on the cinema screen I saw Lector slice the front portion of brain and remove a piece which in the next shot he puts into sizzling butter in the pan. The dvd omits the removal of the piece.
cue lots of 'not this again' type comments ;)
(btw any other thread about this I can't find or like the one above cannot open)

I did see him slice the brain before he cooks it in the cinema - is that not on the DVD?

On the R2 that I've seen, you do see him cut out the small section on the front of his brain, and then he puts it in the pan. I noticed this was cut out of last night's ITV broadcast (the cutting, not the pan).
