Does anyone know whether this will be identical to the R2/4 versions, or have better picture etc, or too early to say?

I've heard that too which is why I held off buying the R2 set for so long !.

Marti Noxon has said herself that she's looking forward to the US release of the Buffy Seasons as Season 1 and (Possibly) 2 have been remastered and may have extra bits that Region 2 missed out on.
If the pic quality is MUCH better then the R2 release then i will be getting Season 1 again!
hmm, interesting.........we shall see.
The head of Fox US DVD distribution (or something like that) said that the US discs would be identical to the R2/R4 releases, with a few added extras. It is highly unlikely that the episodes have been remastered - ignore what Marti Noxon said, she has nothing to do with the DVD releases. There may be a slight improvement in picture quality, due to the NTSC format of the release (Buffy is edited in NTSC video, therefore no conversion will have been necessary). Chances are though that any differences will be nigh-on imperceptible.

Thats just the sort of unconstructive comment that brings these forums down. Why do some people fell the need to post comments like the above which have nothing to do with the subject?
Back on subject, don't know how some of you can wait that long for Buffy to come out on R1. I have the R2 set and think it is perfectly watchable.

Seems pretty much on topic to me. The picture quality of the first 2 Buffy boxsets is appalling.
I took it as he meant Buffy in general. Maybe i'm wrong then.

Sorry you misinterpreted my comment Alanok.
It was a reference to the picture quality which in some scenes is quite appalling. Having said that I still have all 3 seasons sitting on my shelf as I love the programme.
I thought there was a glimmer of hope when someone associated with the show used the word 'remastered' but as TheFly has pointed out Marti Noxon has nothing to do with the dvds.
Look for the remastered versions about the same time we get Angel in widescreen.
I think I must apologise as well ed. I misread what you meant and steamed right in there, sorry. A little advice maybe though is too elaborate abit more so in future thick people like me won't jump down your throat.

As far as I understand, the DVDs were mastered with both the UK and the USA in mind, even though americans would have to wait longer due to legal reasons.
So my guess is that those Marti Noxon remarks referred to the DVD edition in general, not the USA edition. She probably just meant that episodes had been remastered for DVD, not remastered "again" in regards to the existing UK edition.
So yes, I'm afraid we'll be getting the same poor, poor transfer we got from the UK in the first place... that I ordered at once as the three seasons already released became available, of course, in strict compliance with my religion!:D
Anyway, I'll be the first to feel happy if proved wrong!

I've got my order in for the R1s but only because I want them uncut and matching. I'm sad I know. Also, much cheaper!

Looks like Fox US are using the same packaging as the UK (based on the Amazon.com picture), but no doubt season 2 will be modified as with the R2 edition of season 3 to avoid the scratched discs problem.
Going by the pic on Ringos site it looks like three amarays like the R4 but alot more brighter.
