Did I read somewhere, possibly on the forums, that there is a 2-disc Special Edition on its way?

Yes somebody did post that.

Personally the Region 1 DTS version is superb

1.85:1 16x9 enhanced

Full 1544 kbps DTS sound 5.1

No extras though

Yeah but I'm a sucker for extra's and commentaries, especially of films I love.

Anyone know how long I'll have to wait?

R4 has a commentary and a documentary, it's also anamorphic, though I guess like some people you can't bear to watch it without DTS! :D

Here's a review (http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ReviewID=26)

And what exactly are they going to fill 2 discs up with?

According to dvdreview.com (here (http://www.dvdreview.com/news/pokenews.asp?news_id=4219)), next year will see a 2 disk 12 Monkeys. No date yet and nothing new in terms of special features, but both DD and DTS tracks.

Let me guess as it is Universal
1 disc will have a widescreen version, the other a P & S version!

I'm still waiting.:( Did I miss it? Has it been out already. Maybe I've seen it and forgot about it.

There is also talk of an Ultimate edition in R1. The current R1 (I'd be interested if this is true of R4) is badly mastered because the commentary cuts off with the credits.

In the original Laserdisc version there were a few minutes of blank screen while the commentary finished.

I am waiting for an edition that corrects this before I finally own one of my fave movies in a decent form.

Can anyone confirm if the R4 has this correction?

Cheers.

Universal seem to have lost interest in ultimate editions, with DTS and DD with film only on disk 1 and extras on disk 2, as nothing for over a year on subject.

May get something in UK as now Universal have got distribution rights for their films on DVD back from Columbia they are starting to get extras rated at the BBFC but no guarantee they will add DTS. Could always get both R1 DD & DTS disks as in the US the DTS disks are now down below $20.

I got the R4 recently (new from CDWOW) and was surprised when the commentary was cut short abruptly at the end of the credits. So I can't give you the confirmation you want!

Just recieved 12 Monkeys CE R1.. good picture overall, but seems a bit grainy. Anyone notice this?

Knowing my luck the new SE/Ultimate will have remastered film transfer.

if you absolutely must have DTS, then buy both discs...

the documentary is one of the best things on the CE disc, full of extras and artwork, and really is a must.

if you just want one copy of the film, then the CE/SE is it. accept no alternatives;)

IMHO, unlike SPR, its not a film that really needs DTS overall.. odd bits perhaps show it off better but the DD is excellent quality anyway.

Agreed, 'The Hamster Factor' is probably THE single best DVD 'extra' i've seen, and Gilliams commentary is, as usual, informative and funny.
Get the CE disc.
Or get both.
:)

Another  here. "The Hamster Factor" along with "The Beginning" from The Phantom Menace are the best making-of documentaries i've seen.

It is, but it's the only extra plus the movie itself is non-anamorphic :(

which is why everyone recommends the anamorphic R4 disc instead.

isn't the r2 also missing the artwork pages also... ? not sure about the r4.

first disc I ever bought in early '98...when discs were real discs and cost you £20 or more!:)
