I have 2 Dell rack mount servers (PowerEdge/Powervault) temporarily sitting on top of a cabinet as they are due to be moved to another cab - this is now happening tomorrow. Seems everything else (switches etc) attach via 2 bolts on the front that screw in to the "nut" behind the cabinet vertical rail - this doesn't look strong enough to support a server. 1 of the servers has the front bolts and also rails, the other has nothing on the front or at the sides.

What do I need to go and buy to get these into my new cabinet?

Thanks for any help.

To mount the Poweredge you need to use the Dell Rapidrails or other compatible rails.

For the Powervault I would suspect the same thing. Check Dells site you'll find all the information you need there.

We don't use Dell we have HP's and our storage unit (probably the equivilant to your powervault) is railmounted in the rack.

Cheers - I have some rails somewhere I seem to remember for one of the servers. I assume they bolt on to the front and back uprights. Where do I get the "nuts" for the back of the uprights? Hmm - actually the rails I have are too long for the server.

Can I just go out and buy rails on Tottenham Court Rd or soewhere?

OK the whole rail thing seems to be a nightmare so going for shelves. Where on earth can I get these on the high-street? I am near Tottenham Ct Rd if that helps. Any ideas.

I doubt you can get them on the high street, it's hard enough to get them from resellers in my experience (of HP and IBM racks, my datacentre only has two Dell racks in it!) :( And you pay through the nose for what is fundaentally a bit of metal too :(

Racks are a pain, especially trying to get the slide rails from different makers to fit.
We either use B+Q steel shelving or for rack cabinets get rack shelves ( £15-20 from cpc ) and lay the PC on it's side on them.

Any issues with size of rack and compatibility with cabinet?

Any links to CPC items? Notoriously difficult to find anything on there.

Thanks.
