i cannot seem to be able to play online can anybody help me please

XBOX or PC?

If its PC, you need to open ports 5739 on the router & stick your PC IP in the DMZ.

If it's XBOX, run the Xbox Live connection diagnostics : go to your Xbox Dashboard, click "Settings"->"Network Settings"->"Connect". Once the connection wizard has completed (hopefully succesfully), press "Y", then "A" - what are the NT, MT and IC figures?

Basically its the NT number thats the most important. ideally these should both be at 1. But in your case one of your NTs will be at 2 or 3 which means in simple terms that you connection is more 'closed' than somebodies with an NT of 1 who will have no problems connecting to people.

Port forwarding, if configured correctly, normally solves the NT problem ... but what I would recommend you do is put the Xbox IP Address (available on the Xbox Dashboard->Settings->Network Settings->IP Address) in the router's DMZ.

I assume you are using a router, if your using a modem, you should have no problems.
