I notice that Play have JPIII R1 in stock. Does anyone know what the release date for R2 is? If it is months away, I'll order the R1, if not I'll rent the R2.

Cheers,

Alex.

This looks like Universal's first DVD release after splitting up with Columbia. Is this correct?

So far, Universal UK have been rubbish. Poor cases, designs and loads of features missing. Universal UK have been distributing Dreamworks, and have so far ignored DTS !

Columbia have been doing a great job for Universal. It is a pity if Universal has dumped then.

Does anyone know any different ?

JP3 is out to rent in Jan. To buy in Feb. That's another thing Columbia didnt do. RENT b4 BUY

Unfortunately as far as I know, the rights to the Universal titles will go back to Universal early next year. Thats why Universal have held off releasing some big titles like the Back To The Future series, so that Columbia dont get thier profits!

It's a shame 'cos as you say Columbia have been doing an excellent ( I reckon they are the best big Hollywood studio when it comes to releasing R2 DVDs) - If Universal UK had released Gladiator or the Mummy Returns you can bet they would be crap packages.

Also when Universal UK get the rights back I think they are going to start packaging thier titles like the usual Universal UK titles not like the Columbia Universal titles (just look at JP3), another shame as the Universal Uk pacakaging looks cheap!

Well, I'm hoping that Universal UK are ready to mirror their colleagues in the States and give us the same discs. I know it's probably wishful thinking, but if they did they would wipe the floor with the majority of releases via Columbia. Superior cover art for a start.

Also, the TV arm - Universal Playback - have disappointed me greatly with the releases of classic cop shows etc.:(

On the whole, their policy seems to be three random episodes from whatever season! Don't they realise collectors, and that's what most DVD purchasers are, want complete seasons. If not in a complete boxset/disc then on a series of discs. :brickwall

I have twice e-mailed them telling them this - sorry if this went off the main subject a bit but it just re-inforces how useless Universal are!!
