I'm selling an item on ebay with the payments methods I accept as being Postal Orders or Bank Transfer only, this was stated cleary on the auction. Someone placed the first bid and then emailed me to ask wheter I accept Paypal
I replied and said that I don't accept Paypal. They mailed me back and asked me to cancel their bid. I mailed back and said that I wouldn't cancel the bid but not to worry as I was sure the item would get further bids. They replied with this :-

So even though someone makes a genuine mistake, your gonna be an ass about it? Well you better hope someone does outbid me then cause i only pay through paypal!

and this :-

Look, i have been decent about this and i came to you with 4 days remaining on the item, its not like i left it to the last minute, i am fairly new to ebaying and ive made a genuine mistake by no reading the payment methods and 90% of people use paypal on here so i just made the mistake of assuming you would be as well. It was a genuine mistake and i appologise for it so please dont be difficult about this!

I replied and said that I didn't appreciate the tone of his email and that maybe in future he'd read the terms of the auction before bidding and got this reply :-

Well it has to get over £7 and as i said, i only pay via paypal!! I dont care if i get bad feedback from it but i dont trust any other way than paypal so if you want me to pay up, thats the way i will be going!

The item has received further bids but the muppet has bid again (and currently has the highest bid) even though he knows that I don't accept PP.

Whats my best course of action, can I stop this idiot placing any more bids ?

ask ebay to bar any further bids from him on your auction. send them copies of his communications.

why he bid again is a bit of a mystery

Tell him if he insists on paying by paypal then you will have to insist on shipping it to him sellotaped to the back of a tortoise.

....add him to your banned list and hope you get a higher bid whereupon he won't be able to bid again. (Sure someone could put a bid in - hell I will!! :D )

Why didn't you just cancel the bid? Seems like you are been an ass about it.You just brought it all on yourself.

Why didn't the person read the payment options in the first please... seems the only ass in the story is the person who didn't view one of the most important factors of winning the item.... :P Hmmmm Dean?

if the bidder cancels their bid, it shows on their history and sellers can hold that against people.

if a seller cancels the bid, there are no negative outcomes for either party.

so often a bidder will prefer the seller to cancel the bid, than cancel it themselves

I dont get it, the bidder made a mistake and you decided to hold them to it? I'm not surprised they got a bit snotty afterwards. All you had to do was tell them they could cancel their own bid.

Have they actually bid twice or just put an initial bid in (£7) that is still above that of the other bidders?

Edit: Ahhh, didnt know that about it showing on your history, still it seems to me that its unlikely the bidder would be that savvy.

tyler mate - just canel the bid and add them to your blocked bidders list. then send the idiot an email with www.paypalsucks.com in it and tell him you hope it happens to him one day.

Maybe he just doesn't realise he can cancel the bid himself. I often get mails like this.

He's made a genuine mistake, and has admitted it, and apologised for it, all in good time. What more do you want? As said, he probably put in a maximum bid, so it looks like he is still bidding on it. Just do as Geoggy says.

Don't know what you are selling, but if £7 is about the price you'd expect for it, and he wins it. You'll end up with an unsold item!!

I would just send him the link to cancel his own bid - and I would have blocked him as a buyer immediately after the first contact. No need to

ask ebay to bar any further bids from him on your auction. send them copies of his communications.

as they'll probably do nothing anyhow. Just do a search in the 'help' section and you can enter his ID yourself on your block list.

I too wonder if the guy really placed another bid or if the 'second' bid was just a proxy. Look at the date and time of the two bids from him, it'll tell the story - apologies if you know this and have already done so, I fully accept that he could well have turned arsey now and placed another to spite you.

Why are you making a big issue out of this?. Just cancel the bid and save yourself the hassle.

He has at least been honest with you and given you some time to cancel the bid, I've had plenty of people do it to me who have told me once the auction has been won
