I have just bought a new television and don't want to place my centre speaker on top of it. I have no room to put it on the cabinet and was wondering if I put a pine shelf on the wall behind the TV, could I sit the centre speaker on it? Would this sound ok or should I think of something else?

I would fix the shelf so that the speaker would be at the same height as it would be if I sat it on the TV.

What do you think?

I can’t see it being a problem, as long as the difference between the fronts and the centre aren’t to great, and you set the delays or distances right on your amp.

I'm about to wall mount mine, removing it from the cabinet below. I'm just using a pair of Ikea metal brackets and not bothering with a shelf.

I'd suggest putting it slightly above the height you've suggested or a fair degree of the sound will play at the back of the tv.

To me the speaker sounds better above the tv, more airey if that makes sense, probably lets the bass ports breathe easier (sorry the b/s is taking over).

Might be worth checking out what Dolby recommend for speaker placement here. (http://www.dolby.com/ht/Guide.HomeTheater.0110.html#chapter3)

Hope that helps.
