OK, so how does it help you predict the weather?

I think that paragraph is a general one referring to the whole Syncronic range - ie one of the more advanced ones probably supports weather prediction, I would imagine by pressure readings

Is it waterproof ? would make a good watch for work if it is.

I was wondering the same thing but couldn't find anything stating it was (or wasn't) online. My feeling is that it should at least be splash proof given it is intended for outdoor use but would really like to know if it could be used in wet coniditons for sure or not. Not too bothered about swimming potential.

OK, so how does it help you predict the weather?
Put watch on. Stick arm out of window. Pull arm back in. If watch is wet it is going to be a rainy day. If cold and white it might snow.

Nio, you just don't have any weather where you are.

I should have added the usual caveat - predictions may not be 100% accurate in all circumstances.

Anybody know if they're water resistant at all - ie can I go swimming in it? At £15 delivered it was rude not to buy one. Especially when they're 50 notes plus carriage everywhere else.

Gone for one.

Seems a very good deal for a watch with an electronic compass.

The syncronic website seems to be down/non-existent so perhaps the company has gone under explaining the low price.

Anyway, good for travel. Thanks OP.

Got mine this morning, very impressed with the service, and the watch seems OK too, will be fine for getting battered about a bit at work.
When someone else gets theirs, could you please tell me if the LCD display goes off when you press the backlight button? I'm assuming it needs a new battery (spare one in the box handily enough), but just wanted to see if anyone else's did the same before taking it to bits. Thanks to the OP.

Yep, unsure as to how accurate it is, as I don't have a 'real' one to compare it to. It can be setup for true North too, there's a full page in the manual of Magnetic Declination around the world if that helps? :)

Got mine yesterday - pretty quick service! Seems fine - does what it says it should. Re: backlight, the LCD characters dim a bit if you press the backlight button repeatedly but one press just turns on the backlight leaving the LCD display on and readable.

Could someone who has one try the countdown timer and tell me if it is possible to turn have it only beep at the end of the time. From the descriptions I read it seems to beep every second for the last 5 seconds then beep twice at 0. I wondered if it was possible for it to only beep at 0?

As far as I can see it will only do one setting: 5 beeps for the last 5 seconds and a long beep at the end.

Thanks. Now I've got to decide if that is worth putting up with given the price and other features.

neilacaldwell - Re:Water resistant - Tuco posted on the first page that they'd seen mention of waterproof to 10m. Not sure if that is enough or not for you.
Maybe there is some information in the documentation people have received?

The pacer simply beeps on at set intervals e.g. can set it for 60 beeps per min. Re: water resistance, I can't find anything in the instructions about it.

Mine arrived today too. Seems pretty solid for the price and the compass functions seems to work well.

I should have had a small manual so give them a call. Mind you most of it is common sense. The key thing to know is how to calibrate the compass. If you don't have any joy I can summarise here.

A summary to get me going would be much appreciated!

I've figured pretty much everything else out, but compass calibration may be pushing it on-the-fly....

One question I do have is what is the difference between the top left button (labelled light) and the middle bottom button, as both seem to just turn on the backlight

A run down would be great.... I havent had a watch of this type before and am stumped as to even setting the time!

nathankw
24-08-2005, 17:07
OK - here goes.

Trackmaster Mini Manual

Mode changes between the different watch modes (time, alarm, stopwatch, timer, pacer, dual time)

To set time hold down mode for 2 seconds, then use st/stp and lap/reset to increase or decrease, mode to move on.

Setting alarm and timer uses the same procedure.

To get the compass press lap/reset.
Before first use or when "DIST" is flashing you have to calibrate.
Hold "mode" for 2 seconds and DEC will appear with a digit. You have to set the declination (which is -3 for the UK). Then press mode and it'll go into Calibration mode. The light will come on for a second and then the compass blob will appear and slowly rotate. You have to rotate the watch at the same speed, in other words try to keep the blob pointing in the same direction. It says to try and turn it as smoothly and steadily as possible. Also the watch has to be Horizonal. After a couple of turns you'll be complete.

Press lap/reset again to exit compass mode.

Most everything else is pretty obvious with a bit of experimentation.

Good luck!

As far as I can see there is no difference between the two light buttons.

Ta.

As far as I can work out basically a simple compass. You can lock a single point (so that the compass stops moving) but otherwise I can't see any way to store readings. It doesn give them to you as a 3 digit bearing though.
