I returned my Skyworth DVD player to WH Smiths due to the exessive heat generated by the player, even in standby. (If I had wanted an electric heater I'd have bought one).

So, I'm actively seeking a relacement DIVX player for around the 30-40 quid mark. Likely candidates include : Tevion (Aldi), Cello/Mico (Sainsburys). Anything else?

You're right, I never felt mine before, Just did and it's off and it's HOT
I have a Yamada DiVX player as well and that has no heat problem.

I'd say mine was very hot, almost a fire hazard. Bloke at WH Smiths said they'd had a few returned for the same reason.

How is the Yamada in comparison? Where did you get that from, Amazon?

Aldi had no Tevions left.

Those DK Digital machines that SVP sell look great! What features do these have that the above mentioned players don't? I've never heard of this Nero Digital standard. Also how does DIVX VOD work?

Sammy don't know much about the Skyworth players, but having read review after review for nearly 2 weeks,i settled for 2 of the 339's and a DK 500,the 339's have played anything i have flung at them, remote is spot on,and it is really slim, mine was multi-region out of the box from SVP (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http%3A//www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/dvdplayer.html) the DK 500 supports NERO DIGITAL which as far as i am aware is another codec used by NERO,as for the VOD service if you read here (https://vod.divx.com/how/) you may suss this side of things out,a word though on the 500 model,i found that is looks better cosmetically, although the remote is naff, and it seems in need of a firmware update as it has a problem outputting the proper aspect ratio on divx files on a widescreen television(large black bars top and bottom)This i have read on the their support forum, will hopefully be rectified soon, just though i should mention it,good luck with your choice

TEL,

Great post thanks! Do you rate the 339 best then? Where are these forums you mention?

TEL,

My googling has found another good DIVX player : Targa 5100 from Lidl. I see you were interested in the one that was advertised in the classifieds, presumably the bloke never got back to you? Might be worthwhile waiting for Lidl to sell these again, might be cheaper than 50 quid.

Sammy at the moment i would have to say the 339,but then the 500 has not been released that long, and hopefully a future firmware update should iron out any bugs,as for the Targa,i had heard very good reports about these machines, and tried at least 5 of my local Lidl stores to get one,and they are completely out of stock, you could sit back and wait until they maybe do them again(if ever)and i agree they will probably be less than 50 notes, the support forum for DK is here (http://www.dkdivx.co.uk/forum/)

Good luck with your eventual choice
