is it one of those where you have to remember to cancel after the 3 issues?

(Edit: Thanks for finding this by the way!)

yes, Kieron.

Gonna be strict now in making sure I cancel them all from now on!

Only problem is keeping track of which standing order is for which subscription.

Thanks I've gone for this. Going to be difficult to remember to cancel! I'll make a note in my diary and resurrect this thread at the time!

Worth noting that it can take up to 8 weeks for the first issue to arrive!

Was going to buy one the other day but at £3.80 thought it a bit steep. Im sure it used to be under £3 when I used to buy it.

Yes, I do wonder who coughs up that kind of money on a regular basis. Some of these magazines are well over £4 now.

Good spot....many thanks. The only problem being that when I buy this kind of magazine I tend to see something I want that I didn't even know I needed!!

Thanks - couldn't resist. But what's this about...

What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision subscription rates for United Kingdom
Please select the subscription offer required:
- 3 Issues for a £1 then 3 Issues @ £9.10 thereafter by direct debit
- One Year at £42.00 Normal Price = £49.40 save 15% - By Credit Card So you either pay in installments and save £21.10 or you pay upfront and save, er, £7.40

They are hoping you forget/can't be bothered to cancel the direct debit and keep buying the mag till doomsday.

Never went for one of these offers before.
How easy is it to cancel the direct debit. Just go to your online bank and cancel it with a click of a button?
Is it as simple as that, or do I have to contact What hifi to cancel it aswell?

Good question. I'm wondering exactly this myself.

If it is as easy unilaterally cancelling the DD then that's no bother to do.

When is the best time to cancel the DD. Wait until the third copy is delivered then cancel straight away after that?

In the long run this is going cost me a fortune as I'm bound to see lots of nice must have HiFi "toys" and the plastic will get hammered!

Cheers OP, gone for this.
It's an entertaining comic, which directional cables should I buy?
How much money should I spend on a digital interconnect to make my steam of zeroes and ones sound more bassy?

Come to think of it, couldn't I cancel as soon as I've had the first copy.
I've paid a pound for three issues after all.

I used to buy this religiously in the early 90s, before they became "What Marantz". :(

Have things improved?

I think it's the crappest mag on the market, but I took up this offer too. I like to look at the pictures, and to my wife's annoyance, read the lists at the back on the bog.

They do have their favourite brands, don't they? They used to always like Mission too along with whatever new Marantz had come out that month, urging us all to run out and buy the MkIVSE version of whatever.

Alarmingly, the editor (a woman, no less, not that it matters) was on BBC radio yesterday talking about the poor Dixons sales figures. Remarkably, she was suggesting you shouldn't buy online bacause there are many cases of goods not turning up (yeah, right) and was talking about the specialist support and advice available on the high street with reference to Dixons and Currys!
