Ok all i have is a TV (some JVC 29" ws thing) and a DVD player (Toshiba SD220). I need a 5.1 system with amp. Since im in a flat with reasonably thin floors id like some speakers that limit what goes out from their base is possible :) So stands also required i guess. Cant nail anything into the walls as the landlord wont let me.

Ive looked on Richers Sounds webby but tbh i dont know what im lookin at.

Budget of 3-400 quid.

Suggestions?

Ta for help.

i'm in the same situation as you and think i'll go for the Canton CD-1 for about £240 and a £150 amp.

have been reccomend by loads of ppl that they are great speakers, check out avforums.co.uk

If I was you, I would get a Pioneer or Marantz or Yamaha amp, they seem to be the best ones in my experience.

Then spekaers, spend as much as you can as it will probably end up with you getting the most you can out of the amp for the money.

The Canton speakers mooingmilk mentions look quite good.

I would really recomend the marantz amps especially if you intend to use it for music as well as dvd's av stuff. I've got a SR4300, and a SR7500, and they both kick ass!

Last time I went to richer sounds they were selling the SR4400 for £170, so it might be worth popping down your local and checking them out. However they dont have any on the net. Failing that, they are available at Peter Tyson for £180. (You could probably google around to find it cheaper though)

I think some mission speakers could well be in your price range. If you can find some, the old M7Xi range could be pretty good.

You could look at getting some m71i fronts ,
some m7ds rears

and a m71cl1i center

Alternitively check out the new mission ranges. My sugguestion would/should be well within your budget.

I've looked at richersounds site for speaker packages and they all look a bit poor. Best thing to do is go to your local hi fi stores check out what sounds good to you, and take anything the 'helpers' say with a pinch of salt.
