Anyone know what all this is about?

Just come across a poll on the issue (here (http://vote.sparklit.com/web_poll.spark/541116)), but don't know what the deal is.

Are Warner R4 going to release everything in NTSC for some reason instead of PAL?.

Any links to news items about this?

This stinks. R4 was perfect for Warner... Amaray cases, PAL and cheap!

a few warner releases are NTSC but a lot of them are titles that aren't mainstream and huge sellers. A few have actually been re-released with Pal transfers but it's not a big deal anymore

This is what I've heard (based on the R4 Babylon 5 release)

Some titles are being dual coded R1 & R4 in NTSC so that Warner use the same disk in both regions for cost reasons.
Pretty bloody cheapskate if you ask me :(

That's Warner all over. Cheap back-catalogue transfers (Batman, etc), no-extras, static menus (saves on BBFC certification costs), cheap cases (snappers), cheap prices (okay that's a plus - but you get what you pay for).

not all titles but some are being released NTSC here in OZ.

if you want to find out some more on this drop by DVDplaza (http://www.dvdplaza.com.au) and do a search on the subject and you will find a few threads on it.

Just had a look at dvdplaza as suggested and it seems it's still a big deal and does include mainstream titles (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves being one of them, and on top of that it's a flipper disc!). This is going to be a seriously blow to Warner Aus as I bet they'll get huge cancellations both there and from overseas buyers.

Why do Warner do these things? What's wrong with just releasing DVDs normally like everyone else? They make damn good films, what is it about DVD, it's almost like they want DVD to be cr@p so people stick to the cinema?

It does seem strange as Warners were one of the most enthusiastic supporters of DVD when it first came out and produce some of the lowest priced discs.

To make more money, or if you want to be kind, reduce costs so they can keep the price of their discs down

Excellent news. One of the thing that puts me off R4 releases is that they are in PAL.

Cheap discs + NTSC.... I am really pleased by this!!!!
