NTSC converters

I bought one of those NTSC converters....to make the picture into colour from region1 discs on my PAL TV.

Is it normal to expect to see thin red and green lines diagonally across the top 1-2" of the screen (visible over the black bars) ? The supplier told me that these are "information" lines that are normally hidden, but as I am now converting 525 lines into 625 then they are visible.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of them ?
