View Full Version : bond sets r2 & r4 - covers
just got my bond set from dvdcrave ;-) at just over 1/2 the cost of the uk big mutha box release ;-)
unfortunately i've noticed that the r4 covers are completely and uttertly s*h*i*t*e
(rant - why is it that europeans make SUCH better dvd covers than everyone else? ;-)))
does anyone know if i can find cover scans of the r2 covers online - or shock horror, does anyone fancy scanning their bond covers in (hell 19 ppl could do one each ;-)
then i'll print them out and chuck 'em in the amaray cases ;-)
failing that i'll just design my own... i can't cope with 19 pictures of the bonds on garish colour backgrounds on my shelf!
(having said that, for the cost saving its hardly the end of the world ;-)

Take a look in Woolworths at the EiV discs. Magnolia?
Anyway, thedigitalbits.com have really nice covers featuring the original artwork.
Can't remember the link, but have a look at their Bond reviews...
Here's the link http://www.thedigitalbits.com/clips/easteregg/index.html
I've just started replacing my R4 covers with these, they're big (about 7mb zipped) to download but definitly worth it.
Staples have also got an offer on the glossy paper at the moment. 25 sheets of Kodak for £10 with an extra 25 sheets free. :D

:D
well, most of the time I look at the covers. They sit on my shelf for most of their life - I don't want my shelves looking rubbish!

Have to agree with Bolch regarding the replacement covers over at digitalbits. I spent a few nights replacing my mixture of R1&2 with those and the end result is stunning. Even my wife, whose reaction at the time was "what are you *DOING*?!?" grudgingly admitted it was worth the effort.

well, for the films i tend to like (art house, hk, action, just about anything really) i tend to prefer the euro. covers.. each to their own
i saw those digibits covers before, and if i can't find anything else i'll use them ;-)
I just like the idea of the spines matching so all those people who borrow my dvds put them back in the right place ;-)))

The spines are matching. they spell 007 like the r2 ones, they`re also number along the the top of the spine.
Am I being harsh, but I think it is very silly changing covers, because they are 'ugly' and look bad on the shelf? I mean u only see the spine on the shelf, or am I missing value? As well as being a waste of time and money, the dvd will be worth less as it has a non-original cover.

Worth less? Firstly, no it won't because you still have the old cover should you decide to sell. Secondly, chances are if you're taking the time to print up a replacement cover it's probably one of the discs you're not likely to sell.
As far as the Bond DVDs go, I think you're missing the point. The R2 (and R4?) covers make up the 007 logo along the spine. The R1s don't. Even if you're just looking at the spines, it looks a bit crappy when you have bits of a logo interspersed unevenly across the collection if you're one of those people who bought their collection in various regions (they were released at different times in different territories).
Waste of time and money? Quite possibly, but then again some people have a surplus of both :D
I sold off my semi-complete R2 to buy the R4 as it would've looked really stupid having a mix on the shelf and I wasn't going to pay £14.99 for the remaining 10 films, when I could get them from Oz for only £9 each.
It's not just the spine, but the entire cover is really poor. The thing I really like about the covers at The Digital Bits is the fact that each one incorporates the original poster artwork. It's only cost me a fiver for the glossy paper as I use works printers, but they look fantastic when they're done. It certainly shut my mate up who said "They (R4's) might be cheaper but, they look ***** when all lined up" :D
Some people are just really anal about things looking right (that and Bill Murray :p)
EDIT - I almost forgot, how can it make them worth less? In my eyes it makes them worth more. Maybe not in terms of money but in terms of the time and effort I've put into them. If someones gone to the hassle of buying the entire James Bond collection on DVD it'll be because their a fan and want the films to keep.

would anyone be interested in getting all these (unzipped to 20mb .tif files) on a cd? i have downloaded them all this morning (the joys of abusing a 100mbps lan connection :D) and could do them on a non-profit basis, say 1.50 pounds for the cost of a cd and delivery.
