AAAARGH!!!!! :help:
None really, I just turn off/over if I don't like something. Used to have to endure 210 fm at work yeas ago, so really hated Meat Loaf, Bryan Adams and Whitney.

Anybody with a good voice who then makes soul lite records where every line is dragged out to the point of dispair.
Iiiiii wwwiiiiiiiillllll aaaaalllllllwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyysssss llluuuuuvvvvvvvvvvvveeee yyyyoooooooohhhhhh ect.
They need slapping with a corn plaster from the foot of satan the lot of em.
There's also 'Mumbles the comedy rapper'. Who trades by the name of 50 cent.
First one that springs to mind is the aptly-named James LaBrie from Dream Theater - the very worst excesses of completely unironic hair-metal yodelling cheese, on steroids and amplified to the power of pi. Utterly, shamelessly abysmal. :gag:

27-07-2005, 11:14
Thom Yorke
David Gray
Macy Gray (no relation)
Sweetie the Chick
Jamie Cullum's just a wannabe Harry Connick Junior, but without the benefit of gun crime under his belt. I'd rather listen to Robson and Jerome.
Chris Martin's dull drone is mildly irritating, but I'm not exposed enough to it to have it really grate on me.
Liam Gallagher (DITCH that AWFUL nasal whine for goodness sake!!!)
Whitney Hooooston
Michael Jackson (when he does those stupid hiccupy things)
Amy Whinehouse
and I'm sure there's loads of others. Think I've just managed to block them out of my head...

Charlotte Church...only on her new record mind - why on produce a song that makes use of 1/4 of your talent, especially when considering the sub-disco trash standard that makes up the rest of the record (my sister owns it honest!)
I can't stand wasted talent.
Oh and I'll agree with the Liam Gallacher suggestion, and bleedin' Van Morrison (git)

My missus and daughter sing that in the car in the morning when it comes on the radio. You can imagine I'm one happy camper in the AM!
That scabby bloke from Kaiser Chiefs. Bugs the pants off me. He's just talking really.
Also what REALLY bugs me is actually VERNON KAY's voice! Especially when he mentions dross bands like they are the new musical messiah's i.e. KAISER CHIEFS, KASABIAN and EMBRACE. Go on, say those band names in his accent and find out how annoying it is.
Oh yeah, the guy from Embrace. His stupid whiney crap gets on my tits!

Isn't Mary Carey in a whole different profession?
Bob Dylan for me. I know he's hugely loved and admired but to me he cant sing. Also Heather Small, although some of the M-People stuff is great. Mariah Carey and all those other warblers get right on my nerves too. Finally anyone who sings in cod ghetto accents but is from the east end, or leeds or wherever. Dizzy Rascal i'm looking at you!

Whitney might have a voice that grates, but it was technically superb early in her career before the crack.
It just goes to show though, Bobby Dylan and people like Hendrix have technically ***** vocal talents, but impressive in their own way.
Mick Jones
27-07-2005, 15:25
Steve Harley of Cocky Rabble, Freddie Mercury of Queen and of course that annoying bloke out of The Darkness.
EdgeOfVictory
27-07-2005, 17:09
Beyonce - terrific voice, but has no concept of subtlety. i remember once i saw her performing crazy in love, whereas the chorus was done by a backing track and she just moaned and wailed over the top of it.
Dido
Katie Melua
Joss Stone
Shania Twain
Gloria Estefan
Noel Gallagher
Danny McNamara from Embrace
James Dean Bradfield
Van Morrison
Elvis Presley
Antony & The Johnsons
Bright Eyes
I could go on

Completely agree with that, and I would add Neil Young and Marianne Faithfull to that list
3 that I guess many people would say are legends, but although I can appreciate their song writing talents, their vocal sound irritate me: Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Bryan Ferry

I remember Skin from Skunk Anansie driving me mental as well.
Will Young - it's his phrasing that gets on my tits more than his voice
Liam Gallagher - used to be decent in his own unique way. Since just after 'Be Here Now' however his voice has turned really gravelly and reedy and sounds awful (compare the clearness of his voice on 'Slide Away' to reedy whine of 'Who Feels Love')
Ronan Keating - he can't sing

No surprises here:
Liam Gallagher - you never see him and Michelle McManus in the same photo. Some people do anal, they defintely do nasal.
Ian Brown - oh dear, what is to say? OK, I'll say it, the bloke looks like a monkey and sounds far worse. Even Michael Jackson would throw him out.
Missy Higgins - had a listen the other night and she sounds like a drunken Aussie sheep shearer at a karaoke.
Jack White - he's got tattoos and a penchant for 'singing' Dolly Parton songs. If only he could actually sing.
Thom Yorke - Looks as good as he sounds, which is most unfortunate for people with both eyes and ears.
I'm sure there will be more but I'm tired.... ;)

I'm agreeing with many of the basic pop people mentioned here many times already, so will try to throw in a few different ones:
Billy Corgan - only sometimes, mind. On occassion, his voice is absolutely perfect for a song (Disarm), other times it's truly wince-inducing.
Chris Cornell - again, only sometimes. With Audioslave he seems to almost be a parody of himself, and I find it unlistenable. His solo album was lovely, though.
Stereophonics idiot singer - how many cigarettes does he swallow before "performing" a song?
Bob Dylan - agree, hate his voice
The Streets - AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Edit: He sounds like he was a great kid:
At the age of five the boy wonder had apparently been "fiddling with keyboards", later building his own sound booth out of a cupboard and an old mattress and turning his bedroom into "rap central". :cuckoo:

Bono, The Gallagers, all male R&B singers (do they all have clamps on their knackers or summat?!), most techinically good but totally bland pop singers, David Gray. That bloke from the Stereophonics' voice doesn't work for me either.
I prefer singers who are neccessary 'good' singers but have character, a number of which have been listed on here! (ie Ian Brown, Jack White, Hendrix, etc).

Madonna's voice annoys me.
I hate to say it, because I love Led Zep, but I always thought Plant's voice was the only think that let them down. Firstly because he sang in an Amercan accent, but also because it's a bit one-dimensional and "tinny" sounding.

But it's ALWAYS been commented on about Plant's singing. When I was at University many years ago, a flatmate and me used to regularly spend days listening to all the Led Zep albums back to back. A couple of our other flatmates just couldn't abide it because of Plant's vocals. Don't get me wrong, I've got, I do believe, everything he's ever done. I'm not so sure it's possible to sing blues without singing a bit American, to be honest! And when I listen to him it's the only time I ever adjust the treble! "In the eeeeevening..." just rips my ears apart!
Edit: Actually, dare I say it, Plant and the Guns N Roses fella aren't that far apart!
