Hey guys im doing up the old pc where the bottle neck is the chipset/mother board.

So i bought a new mother board and chip and am ready to replace the old ones and fix the pc so my brother can play HL2 :D

My question is will the hardrive work connected to the new motherboard or do i need to format it first

With all the other parts like pci/agp/dvd rom and so on i can just swop them to the new mother board but my mate said i need to format the hardrive first is he right ??

Cheers

when you first turn it on have the windozeXP cd in the PC, it usually works first time if it finds the drivers straight off.

Yep, a format will probably be needed, definately advisable. :)

it'll probably work, but i'd format it mate, i always do. Windows isnt best known for its reliability with things like that.

nah just have the XP cd in the drive and run the Repair utility. I did this recently after putting together a new mobo, CPU and RAM. Obviously didn't work first of, but Repair sorted it all out, solid as a rock now.
