Here's the preorders I've seen so far. In my experience. When importing Winning Eleven only yesasia will guarantee no customs fees. For the UK Gameplay (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://playgames.at/thedvdforums) and Amazon UK (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home^QS^tag=thedvdforums-21^QA^site=dvd) should get you the UK version of the Game on release day although that costs extra for first class postage.

If you see any preorders elsewhere let me know and I'll update this post.

Bolch, sorry to go off topic mate, but do you still have Super Mario Sunshine, is it the Original Release (not players choice) and is it minty mint ?

Now on topic - when is the XBox 360 out and if it's before Chrimbo, are we likely to see PES5 on it ?

Think my PC may be needing a wee Upgrade before November.

Cheers. :)

360 was meant to be out for Christmas but I've not seen a solid release date for anything yet so I'm getting a bit skeptical.

Mario wise, yeah I think so will check tonight.

Ordered Winning 11 and PES5 for the PSP, no way can i wait an extra 6 weeks!

Now to decide on PS2 or XBOX for PES5.

God help me when it comes out on the next gen consoles, although i cant see that happening until next year.

Bolchmeister, do yesasia usually get your pre-orders out on time? Playasia have always been good for me but like you said, there may be custom fees.

E: Also, Play Asia is expecting stock August 2nd, whereas Yes Asia is 4th.

Play-Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-1p3h.html) will ship it quicker than Yes Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp^QS^LU83C65N) and you are unlikely to get hit with customs. Yes Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp^QS^LU83C65N) won't ship it before release date and may not have it in stock until several days after release date.

I buy most of my JPN games from Play-Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-1p3h.html) and they have never let me down. Only problem recently though is that Play-Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-1p3h.html) won't ship PSP games to the UK (due to $ony being *****). Therefore I have the PSP version on order with Yes Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp^QS^LU83C65N).

My PS2 version is still on order with Play-Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-1p3h.html) though.

Whether you chose Play-Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-1p3h.html) or Yes Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp^QS^LU83C65N) you will get pretty decent service.

I've had a sneak peak while I wait for my copy to arrive and....it is a thing of beauty.

Shooting is well improved for me, but it's not *that* much of an upgrade apart from that...everything just feels a lot more 'right'

LouBarlow
03-08-2005, 13:03
Actually dribbling seems a lot looser too, with the ball not being as closely controllled as Pro Evo 4, even with the most skillfull players - a joy to finally be able to throw the ball properly from the keeper too :D

Headers seem to have more weight to them, and the ball seems to deflect a lot more, if you catch my drift? I can't see it being mastered as easily as PES4, in terms of crosses and drag-backs, which can onbe a good thing...oh and no slow-down!!!111

Hope they have an English patch out before my copy turns up, but so far I think it's safe to say that PES5 is going to be the nuts, especially on PC :D

Just been having a go for the last 60 mins - truely awesome. First game I played, I was a little underwhelmed at the changes but by the second game, I was totally sold!

The way you can burrow through defenders now with skillful, powerful players is a much welcomed edition.

Long range shooting is definately improved - was hitting some unbelievable hits with Djibs Cisse (most sailing high and wide :D) and Riise (who is scarily like his real life self in the game!) in my last game.

The animation is just taken up another level - when you see the GK actually slipping a little when trying to get back onto his feet after palming a shot a way, you know care and precision has gone into this aspect!

Passing and control has definately been made harder - forget pressing X,X,X,X and shoot to beat teams as you'll get absolutely nowhere. Care and precision is needed a lot more now when passing the football. Through balls are much harder to judge so no more easy through balls to cut open space behind Fullbacks unless you judge it perfectly. Crossing is also much, much harder and cutbacks don't see to be a factor at all anymore. And forget instant control from less than perfect passes - you can see the extra needed to control balls now.

Running with the ball is virtually ineffective against good defences - no more Ronaldo sprint-a-thons with Real Madrid as you'll get nowhere. You'll need to use the running carefully otherwise you'll be shedding possession quickly. But Konami have made it seems the variances in pace seem more effective so if you're in a footrace between Shevchenko and Hyypia, then you'll notice the difference more in this version.

Overall after 60 mins - top, top stuff and I'm only scratching the surface

EDIT: Class, just seen my brother playing and the CPU defenders actually had a coming together off the ball knocking Silvestre to the ground

I think the scoring difficulty is about right in PES4

What I hope to see from PES5 is improved marking of players so throughballs/cutbacks are not quite so effective, and shooting from distance to be improved.

I'm a bit worried by comments on the PESFan forums that the refs are a bit too whistle happy in WE9, though

The only thing I don't like about the refs on PES4 is they're not harsh enough. I've seen disgusting tackles with only a foul given last chance hack on a man straight through only getting a yellow. If it's a yellow card offence then a yellow card should be given.

Yo guys long time reader first time poster in the world of pro evo in the dvd forums.

Only really buy pro evo on PS2 i get my moneys worth playing with mates :D .

Is there a run down of changes/improvments anywhere online or does anyone fancy doing one in terms W11 cause they change a few for pro evo dont they?

One thing i would like to know is can you curl a shot, a nice nicely placed side foot curler. Or any control over the curl on shooting, its one thing that has always bothered me about pro evo obviously it shouldnt be easy ;)

Cheers guys

Refs are spot on in this version imho.

No longer can you just barge people out of the way using x, if you make unfair contact, depending on the ref, then he blows.

He will also book players for dirty challenges, even if advantage has been played - he waits for play to stop then books the player concerned - class!

I also love the way now that certain attackers can outpace defenders, whereas in PES4 even a defender like Campbell would catch someone like Shaun Wright Phillips, which just isn't realistic.

Also turns have been tweaked so as to not allow for those ghey mazing runs - running with the ball is verrry difficult here, and I'm still on *** level

It's just a better game to me - end of!

Art Vanderlay

If you want it on a disc to save the HEE-UGE download, let me know over on the BF2 Thread.

It is a whole lot more and a whole lot better than 1942. None of us have even touched 1942 since the Demo for BF2 came out.

It's more team orientated now.

Oh and there is a BIG -=EA=- Clan versus the Forumites Match this Saturday night.

But let's not discuss it on your PES Thread - get yerself over to the BF2 Thread man!

You can put a bit of bend on slower shots on pes4 .......

Amount of times i've held on to the d-pad to just curl the shot outside of the post. :D

Bit worrying.

Bleeders just got his WE9 from Play-Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-1p3h.html) and he got knobbed for a £22 Customs bill.

Looks like he went with superfastcosIamdesperate post so here's hoping normal jiffy back gets through.

That's me, £20.01  The worst part of it is I don't even have a PS2 with the ability to play it yet. :(

Just had a few games. Defintitly harder to score and the ref seemed to pick up on fouls a lot more. But don't really want to comment on the gameplay until I've played the PC version - Lets just say I remember why the PS2 was packed in a cupboard.

I had my first game last night, I beat Real on 4*s due to a nice Henry goal - his first touch was new, he kinda pushed it with outside of the boot so he managed to wrong foot the defender. I agree with what Lou said earlier, you definitely have to work harder at passing and moving the ball around, its not just a case of tapping x willy nilly. I like the feeling of struggling/tussling to the ball too. First impressions are definitely good though.

I've been playing this for a few days now and have to agree that it's the best so far. The animation is superb and I like the way players struggle to get past each other unlike PES4 where they just go through each other.

It's harder to score but I've seemed to gotten the hang of it quicker then previous versions. Dribbling is also harder but more rewarding, I managed to get an opposing player to fall on his feet after I changed direction.

Can't wait to play this online!

LouBarlow

Small touches are great too, like the referee pointing in the direction of throw-ins and fouls etc :D

Playing on 5* now and it's not *that* much of a step-up from 3...still tough as old boots to score, which makes it much more satisfying when you do :)

OK, impressions from a playing one match:

Ball seems to bobble around a lot more.
Lots of new animations.
Nice refreshing menus.
Crap opening movie.
Haven't scored a goal yet
Ball sounds meatier.
Arsenal's new kit.
Ref blows for everthing

Graphically it is OK - but the PC version of PES4 (with Wolfy patch) has spoilt my viewing tastes as everything looks blurred on consoles now.

Does feel even more like footie now though.

Yeah I thought the same at first, but you soon learn how to adjust your tackling - it's just a brilliant, brilliant edition of the series - one flaw, and I mean one, is the offside routine, which is just slightly favouring the defending side, which is a mistake in my book...oh and the other *one* flaw, would be that iffy goalkeeping dive routine, but those aside, this is the finest football game I've ever played in my 20 years of gaming.

Chips over the keeper are a *lot* harder...I scored loads that way myself in PES4, but Ihaven't scored one yet in this release...make of that what you will.

I also notice that those goals you could nick when the opposition took a short goal-kick have been eliminated too, as your strikers arent allowed close enough to the last defender.

No matter how much I love the PC version, there can be no arguing that this new PS2 WE9 trouces all over it, despite the slightly shoddy graphics...which are only shoddy because of the limitations of the format...I'm sure the PS3 will beat them all :D

Just had my first 2 games on this.

First impressions are very good, it feels totally different to PE4, then again PE4 felt totally different to 3.

First thing I noticed is just how slow paced the game is.

As for the being harder to score, I'm not sure. In my first game I didnt manage a goal, but in my second I stuck 5 past Rangers on 3 stars with Newcastle, even managed to score a header with Emre, one of the smallest players on the game.

Love the new animations, was taking a corner, looked into the box and players were grabbing each other and jostling for positions.
Like the addition of the drop ball as well, apart from when the other team kicked it back to my keeper, they pounced on the ball as soon as he'd attempted to touch it. :nono:

The omissions mentioned are bad enough (add to that a poor, poor too far in camera that can't be adjusted far enough, meaning you actually can lose track of the ball on replays  ), but it just doesn't *feel* like a Pro Evo game to me - I'm kinda gutted - good enough to play while having a ****, but a major downer for me

Try before you buy folks.

How can you play whilst having a ****? Surely you neede both hands for the PSP? And doesn't it ruin the mood?

:( Damn was really looking forward to this.

Thing is im sure there wasnt any any obvious slowdown on that video clip of the german version that was posted a few weeks ago?

Anyway they have 6 weeks to try and sort something out for the european game, doesnt sound too promising. :(

I thought the same thing russb - I'm still hopeful that this release is not the complete finished one, or that this has all been a horrible dream.

It's not *bad* by any means, just not as good as I, for one, hoped.

Whats the offical release date of Pro Evo 5 on PS2?

Most places say mid October however, gamplay.com has it for the 25th of November. I usually order from them because i get it on day of release. I e-mail them saying everywhere else has it for October, they just said the release list they have from Konami says November :?:

Playing some more PSP stylee at the moment, and as Ono pointed out to me last night, locking the PSP's clock to 333mHz cures the problem of slowdown completely, making it far more enjoyable.

I guess it's going to be a case of playing the bought game from memory card, to get the most out of this one, which is a touch annoying.

The fact that Vieri just scored an overhead kick is also helping me enjoy it a bit more today :D

Are people not expecting to much from the PSP version of Pro Evo 5 ?

I know the controls wont be as good, or game as smooth, but it is on a hand held to play now and again, not for hours at a time like the ps2 and xbox versions. hence stuff taken out.

only thing that would wind me up is slow down.

I actually think the PSP version is pretty decent. One thing you must remember is that it is WE9 and NOT PES4 so you will need time to settle into the game and the different style of play.

Only annoying thing for me at the moment is the blurring of the PSP screen.

This will defo be played by me on the move though. I actually think it's as good as the PSP could handle.

Yeah you don't get any if you run the PSP at its faster speed - I take it he has an actual proper copy of the game then? If so thats good news, as not many games that run from UMD, utilise this faster option.

If he's talking about playing it from his memory card, then it is easy to choose said faster option

Bolch

Ono - Dunno, I've stopped playing it tbh.
Sirp - Not seen one, but I wouldn't be supprised if a patch gets released for those running off the memory card.
shand754 - Not allowed to be discussed on the forums as it *could* be used to pirate games. But yes a large Pro Duo is a good starting point.

Doubt it - unless Konami introduce a '3rd party' (Gamespy etc) in which we all connect to rather than direct IPs, then I believe that any router issues will still exist in PES 5

Played PES5 and didn't notice much difference to WE9. Seems to have a few tweaks like through balls don't get overplayed as much as they do in WE9, there's a 60 hz mode, promoted teams are added and most transfers are done like Owen to Necastle but they don't have Solano.

Well, just played PES5 and it is really a step up from PES4 IMHO. Some of us (me included) are going to have to radically change our play styles to get anywhere on it.

One thing which may be of concern though is the lack of the Training Ground as a selectable stadium. Hopefully the netcode will be better to compensate.

LouBarlow

Yep all the relegated teams are replaced with the promoted teams in the Premiershiup, La Liga, Seria A etc.

Ono
03-10-2005, 21:13
PES5 is absolutely wonderful. It does seem to be faster than the current PC incarnation - but I was playing on PS2 under 60hz.

I think one the best improvements is the shooting. Just played Brazil vs N Ireland and some of the crackers Brazil were firing on goal were stunning and just make them seem "more Brazillian".

The AI of the cpu seems to be better too - N Ireland were passing it around with some decent fluidity (playing 3 star level) and not afraid to go backwards if need be. Getting possession without fouling was harder.

PES5 is going to reward patient passer and/or the speculative shooter :D

Roll on the PC version at the end of the month - I just so happen to have taken a well deserved week or so off work then too

Tob
04-10-2005, 10:44
Ono, are your thoughts in comparason to WI9 or to PES4? Ta.

Ono
04-10-2005, 18:02
To be honest - I can't really tell. PES5 is now my preferred version purely on the basis of the English menus etc.

The commentary from Brackley and Brooking is also top notch. Quite strange playing with it on though as PC PES4 has had commentary off for about a year now

Excellent news, that is the way I play PES4 (unsuccessfully) at the moment, hopefully the new one will cater more for my playing style.

Not sure which version to get, I'll probably get the PS2 version because of mates, etc. (impractical to have them around the PC), but I'd like to play the new version online, would it better getting the PC version and a PS2 pad convertor? Or just go for the PS2 Network?

Also what this about router issues?

Thanks.

john316
04-10-2005, 21:39
Well PC version of course! :D

You already have a large set of opponents right here. And the router issues are just down to port forwarding. To play Pro Evo 4 online, you need to forward ports otherwise it won't work. If it was a problem in Pro Evo 5, then we'd get it sorted very, very quickly for you

Ono
04-10-2005, 21:39
PC version is likely to be the best by far again. Certainly the one I am looking forward to most. The PS2 and XBox version just look blurred next to the PC versions now.

Router issues revolve around port forwarding. Depends on which one you have. Many of us have sorted it out so it can't be that bad.

I'm enjoying the PC demo but again it just doesn't feel as fast or responsive as the PS2 version. Also Ono, try switching to the default 50hz and you'll find a much sharper picture and faster gameplay.
