View Full Version : My AV Receiver has gone for repair...

...and now I can't watch my DVDs on the big screen.

Anyway, I thought maybe if I connected my DVD player to the projector with a scart lead, I'd be able to hear sound through the speaker in the projector. I could hear music through the projector, but no speech. I can't even hear speech when watching a mono soundtrack film.

Can anyone explain why this is the case? Why is it different to having the DVD player connected to a TV? :?:

Also, can anyone suggest any way for me to have sound without my receiver? I'm grasping at straws here I know. ;)

Does your TV have stereo inputs? If it does, surely the DVD player has stereo outs that you could use.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a DVD player with stereo outs, but what would I attach them to? I don't have a TV in the room where my Home Cinema stuff is.

I have a little Denon amp/receiver. Could I play it through that?

Ah sorry, was just assuming there'd be a TV there. Anyone I know with a projector tends to have the screen infront of the TV when they use it :)
As for the Denon, guess it depends on the inputs, would imagine it'd work.

Just a quick update, in case anyone else ever has the same problem.

I checked the setup of the DVD Player and the sound was set to 5.1, which would explain why I wasn't hearing any speech. I changed it to stereo and everything is fine now.

I also plugged the DVD player into the Denon amp I have and now I've got stereo sound too. Of course it isn't as good as the real-thing, but it'll do me until my proper amp is returned. :)
