A local shop has a second hand DSPA Yamaha A1092 amp for sale for £225 , original cost £700 (according to salesman), and is 3 years old. Is this a good deal or would it be wiser to buy new and spend say £300 on a Marantz or new Yamaha?.

It really depends on what it has to offer. If it has all the bells and whistles, good power output, dolby digital, DTS and plenty of digital connections (plus 6 channel discrete inputs), it's worth looking at. However, the quality and sophistication of the amps that have superceded the 1092, coupled with lower prices, makes it more sensible perhaps to look at the newer offerings from Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and others. You should take into account also that the shop will more than likely only offer a 3 month guarantee, compared with 1 or even 2 years with a new product. One thing's for certain, you'd be unlikely to get £225 for that amp on this forum if you didn't like it.
