Every time I look at new TV's I get drawn towards the Toshiba picture frame ones (especially the 36in one 36ZP18P) so if anyone has one are they any good ?

Thanks

Take a look at the HC Setup Thread (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=406463#post406463), some nice photos of reefer's setup with the tosh :)

I've had a look and all I can say is Wow.

The only thing that puts me off is the the tv runs at 100HZ and not everybody seems happy with that.

I dunno anything about this 100hz stuff but can't it be disabled and put down to 50hz ?

I don't understand the 100Hz or 50HZ thing either.

most Tv's are 50 hz (which i think is the speed the scan lines which make up the picture are er.... scanned?), 100hz, in theory, should therefore produce a more stable and less flickery picture.

I bought the 36ZP18P a couple of weeks ago,i'm not that impressed with it,mine along with a number of others has numerous faults, the centre of the picture being darker than the sides on dark scenes,a dirty screen effect on bright scenes, cartoons seem to suffer particularly badly from colour staining and a flickering on some scenes.

I've contacted the dealer and they are arranging a replacement,a new batch is due in from toshiba this week hopefully i'll get it before christmas

If you're going to buy one go to the shop and make them set it up so you can have a good look at the picture.

The worst fault is the brightness problem,it shows up most during the credits at the end of a dvd when the screen is black.

If the new one is Ok i'll be keeping it as the size is really impressive with dvd and I like the style of it.

I'm trying to steer my parents in the direction of the 32" version.

Whats that webpage with a price search engine for ELectrical goods? It's an expensive beast.........I'm guessing the Internet is the cheapest place to buy them.

I was thinking of getting the 36" version but have decided to wait for Tosh to sort out the numerous problems! Goto www.avforums.com and you will see what I mean!l ;)

I have a 36ZP and I love it to bits.

It does have the brighter edges problem and the random brightness change with slow moving objects on high contrast backgrounds. I'm watching the AV forums thread to see how it pans out but to be honest I can live with the slight shortcomings as the picture is just flippin` fantastic 99.9% of the time.

Get it changed.it shouldn't be like that,I looked at a set in costco last week and it was fine, much better than mine, the cost of these tv's are to high to make do.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll wait a while to see if the problems get fixed.

It is all about the refresh rate.100 hz refreshes at 100 cycles per second, and 50 at.........On a large screen ,the flicker from a 50 hz tv makes it unwatchable,or should do.Some wise souls claim not to notice, but look at a 100 hz tv for 5 minutes and then flick to a 50 hz tv.You will notice it immedaitely.

I have just joined this forum - great stuff!
I have owned a Toshiba 36ZP18P set for over 6 months now. I must day that I have had the set replaced three times now.

this is due to geometry problems. The picture slantedat the top from left to right witha difference of upto 12mm! Eventually A Toshiba engineer had to come out and manually adjust. I fidn this amazing has most Pc monitors incorporate geometry adjustment switch.

anyway I did manage to get a top of the range Tosh VCR for free!

As anybosy else suffered from geometry problems with their 36zp18p?

I forgot this thread was still open, so I guess I should add that I did eventually get my 36ZP18P and that I'm very happy with it.

A friend of mine has had 3 picture frame 32" sets from John Lewis and returned them all due to a humming noise.

Think he's going to try Sony next!

I've got the 36ZP18Q and despite a small niggle it is superb. I watched Monsters inc last night and the picture was simply stunning.

My niggle is the dark vertical bars on either side of the screen. These are not always noticeable but seem to appear on images of mainly one colour, i.e, during football matches. For the huge majority of viewing tho the set its well, superb! :)
