Does anyone remember when the Bond movies were released, it was rumoured that Licence to Kill and OHMSS would be re-issued because of censorship/using the wrong masters etc, both here and in the US?

Anyone know whether this is going to happen? If so, any ideas when?

As far as i know, this is a problem confined to America (R1). Where there was a boched job of releasing these movies on DVD. Over here there fine (the copies i have anyway) And are the BBFC appoved versions. Nothing extra cut. But in both cases the studio (MGM) have said they are going to do nothing about it.

They will be fixed for the reissues according to MGM.

I always thought that there was scene in Licence where Moneypenny and Bond meet in Miami? Didn't see it in the film.

Nope, they're botched over here too. It's nothing to do with BBFC because they passed the full length uncut versions, but the DVDs are taken from digital masters that have bits missing (same masters as R1). BBFC database actually lists Licence to Kill DVD as 'previous cuts waived' - but the disc that was released is the same cut version as the R1 and the VHS, released by mistake, from what I understand (I certainly can't see anything new compared to the VHS which was cut).

OHMSS is definitely cut because I've compared the widescreen VHS (uncut) with the UK R2 DVD (cut).

Stupid cuts they are too, but we seem to have one cut less than R1 (or at least compared to the description here (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/cut_list/index_2.html), I went through them all and compared the VHS, and the bit at the end of the stock-car race the end line "I told you that crowd would discourage them" seems to be in there I think, but the rest are certainly cut).

MGM were supposed to be doing something about it in R1 but maybe they've hoped everyone's forgotten about it. UK market is too small for them to bother.

These are of course on top of the censorship cuts to UK versions of Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies. French versions of those two are uncut, however I checked the French version of Licence to Kill and that's cut too (the obvious bit should be the head exploding bit in the decompression tank - I think?).

Well, the US discs were placed on moratorium quite a while ago (not that you'd know - you can still get R1 Bond discs easily).

At the time the speculation was that this was because of Bond 20, and the discs wouldn't be re-released until Bond 20 is ready for DVD.

So a while to go before they are reissued...

And isn't it good news that Pierce is going to keep doing Bond after this one is finished shooting....

Is that true? Excellent if it is as there has been no better James Bond than Brosnan!

Apart from Dalton, Connery, Lazenby and, yes, even Moore, you mean?

Good grief - I'd be tempted to suggest that a geriatric David Niven in Casino Royale almost made a better Bond than Brosnan.

For me, Brosnan's a mannequin in a tuxedo. He looks the part, but in the same almost stereotypical Bond fashion that all those models do in TV spoofs such as the old Milk Tray ads.

There's nothing else to Brosnan - no charisma, no presence, no sexual charge, no arrogance, no sense of threat or danger.

He's also a very mediocre actor. The best Bonds, Connery and Dalton, are extremely good actors, elevating the character above yet another faceless action hero. Meanwhile Moore was consistently charismatic, entertaining and watchable, delivering the humour well even if he wasn't best suited to the rough and tumble spy stuff.

The sooner Brosnan goes, the better.

Connery was right for the part because the Bond films still had a small foothold in reality and some realism, but when things got silly Roger Moore became the best Bond. Timothy Dalton was a disaster. Once the Bond films turned silly he was woefully miscast and it was a mistake to try to reign Bond back in. Dalton was a crap Bond precisley because he was a good actor, because he acted too much. I agree that Brosnan is a bit of a male model and lacks the charisma that Bond needs though.

Where did you here that Pierce Brosnan is doing more Bond films.
I saw him on some interview show and he said that his contract was for 3 films with the option of a 4th.

Timothy Dalton was a good bond and Bond needed a sense of seriousness and not comic book action like some of Roger moore's films.

I like Roger Moore better than Sean Connery.

Pierce Brosnan's last 2 bond films were good but I think Goldeneye was rubbish because after both Dalton films Goldeneye took Bond back to the comic style and the cold war which was over a very long time ago.

Overall I want Brosnan to carry on because at least the tosspots considered for the role won't get it now and if Brosnan gets to do a total of 8 Movies he will be classed as the defientive Bond for the movies he's made.

Connery did 6:
Not including the awful rip off Never Say Never Again.
Moore did 7
Lazenby did 1
Dalton did 2

so Brosnan has surpassed Lazenby and Dalton.

Licence to Kill is one of my Favourite Bond Films.

I really quite like Brosnan as Bond and would be very happy for him to stay in the role. I think he's perfectly acceptable and really quite like him as an actor - i do hope though that he tries to make a more serious Bond film sometime though (like Connery and Bond)

Even though i like all the James Bond films i feel Roger Moore was by far the worst. His films were a bit too camp for me (though i still did enjoy them) and IMO the best Bond film Moore did was For Your Eyes Only - a great downbeat James Bond film with some great stunts and the camp humour reduced quite a bit. He played a meaner James Bond in that film (kicking the car of the cliff) and i enjoyed it all the more for it. I reckon if Moore had have played Bond a bit more seriously he would have been up there with Connery and Dalton as my favourite Bond actors (Licence To Kill is probably my favourite Bond film of all time)

There was something on the news last week. Not sure if there was anything online, I'll try and find it....

(Oh, and if Pierce is wooden, what about Dalton? Yup, he didn't have the best scripts, but he's not great either....).
