I know that the Fr Reg 2 is supposed to be fabulous but what's the UK 'Tartan' ( gulp ) version like? :( don't have a credit card so am forced to purchase in pounds!!

There are 2 Tartan releases out, as Tartan licensed the UK rights to the french disc 7 released it over here, so you can choose between:
Crap 1 disc version
Identical to the French 2 -disc version

I know what I'd go for.

Note that Criterion are doing their own Special Edition of this at the moment, you may want to hold out for that.

I love Criterion, but if they manage to trump the French 2-disc I shall eat a tramps hat - plus it is bound to be more expensive. I wouldn't wait, get l'edition Francais. :D

Given that Criterion have recycled French transfers on numerous occasions in the past (quite a few of their recent titles open with the Canal Plus logo, including some non-French films!), I very strongly suspect this will simply be a reissue of the French disc - after all, since they got it just about perfect, why reinvent the wheel?
