My eyes are not focussing too well today...spent too many hours reading every post in the recent Toshiba 43PJ93B Sales Convention otherwise known as the DVD Forum Thread.
Checked the new Toshiba 43'' 4:3 in Comet at the weekend for an outrageous £1599 and thanks to regular DVDForum man Stantheman checked it out at unbeatable.co.uk for £1170 and have ordered it.
What i'd really like is what any of you RPTV owners have their settings at.
40 widescreen RPTV (03b) but technquly the same thing.
Contrast 30
Brightness 45
Colour 40
tint 0
shapness 0
NR off

Will keeping the brightness down help prevent this screen burn-in ive heard about...or is that a myth?

It should help, from my experience of two 40PW13s (first turned up with triangular colour distortion in the bottom left of the screen), these TVs are set to contrast 100 from the factory:( so you'll want to knock that straight down as well.

Can anyone tell me about convergence?
Are problems confined to the edges of the screen and i've read on here about people adjusting it every month or so. Is that really necessary?
Yep :D but it's worth it, (and i find it fun :o )
hmm, I find I end up making little adjustments to the convergence every so often. I'd set all the points correctly (once I worked out how it all works!) and I sit watching the TV and spot little errors which make me go for the remote to adjust. It's noticeable mostly on Sky Sports News (ch. 413) as there is a lot of text permanently on screen - good test to see if everything is lined up nicely.
Never really notice any problems while watching DVD's though.

Brightness is set to near 50 (the default), contrast is set around the 40 mark. Sharpness is set to -50 (ie off). These settings are for low light conditions ie curtains drawn in daylight. All were set using Video Essentials which I strongly recommend.
Convergence is only an issue on my set at the very edges of the screen. I adjust it from time to time but I don't think there's really any need. The most noticeable mis-convergence is along the bottom left hand edge of an anamorphic image although it's nowhere near bad enough to bother me.
