I've been placed in charge of purchasing a 42" plasma for work to be used in the boardroom. Needs to be 1024 x 768 and good quality (boardroom standard).

Am I right in thinking you can attach a laptop to a plasma but it wont be great quality unless you get a special board for DVI in like on those panasonic PW7's etc.

Any advice please. :)

Well don't expect it to look good if you want to view text, as in normal windows stuff, we have some at work and I was amazed at how bad they can be.

If its only for a presentation with large text and graphics, then it will probably look good.

We use them to run computer generated video sequences, so they look quite good for that.

Oh, don't leave any static images on too long, you'll get screenburn very easily, I trashed one in just a few hours, and no, I didn't have a static image for all that time.

Do most plasmas have vga in then, whats this about resolution, isnt a plasma 42" a standard 1024 x 768 resolution.

Don't confuse him Vince.

It'll look fine Brad.

But no, 1024 isn't the standard res, you'll need to pay a bit more to get 1024 res.

So the TH42PHD7 would be perfect yes ive been told this has XGA and is in that correct screen resolution we need for a laptop.

If it is XGA, it is the right res. Go for it.

if the text looks a bit unreadable, just make it bigger. Easy. :D

What about LCD?....

- higher resolution (1366*768 typically) and that is a proper 16:9 ratio so no danger of elliptical circles (unlike a 1024*1024 or 1024*768 widescreen display)
- about half the running costs - 170W vs 380W for a biggish plasma - and cooler too
- no image burn in risk
- and 60,000 hours backlight life vs 30,000 to half brightness for the best plasmas.
