If i'm trying to download a large file (Far enough i am using dial up) my net conennection goes down after about 30 mins if i don't surf the net at the same time.
How can i get it so that i stays on line for longer periods of time while i'm not bothering to surf?
I'm using Wanadoo anytime and windows XP.
And yes i know broadband would be an answer but i live in the middle of nowhere so no BB yet.

XP may be seeing your connection as idle, have a look at this (http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips374.html) and see if that helps.

Some ISP's software kills the connection if it has been inactive for a certain amount of time, when I was NTL dial up it used to do the same thing could never find any setting to change this but always thought it was strange for it to think it is idle when downloading as data is moving down the line.
try using getright to download big files
even if your connection drops it saves what its got and can resume it any time by double clicking the file

You could setup a very basic web page with a refresh time so it reloads the same page every 5 minutes, should send enough data to keep the connection alive.

I'm trying to download my Norton updates for IS 2005 33MB. I had about 27MB last night then it cut!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would get right work for this?
How do i setup one of those web pages?
Also how do i quote in my replys?
Also worth checking you don't have any messages waiting on 1571 or whatever it is, the thing that causes a broken dial tone at least. Caused me loads of problems back-in-the-day.

We haven't got 1571, but if someone tries to phone the landline while i'm on it sometimes rings then cuts my connection

yep, when you click a download link in IE or firefox, getright will automaticly grab it and you chose where to download it
if it cuts you will see a getright download icon, double click this and it will resume
