View Full Version : Olympus Eyetrek
I'm thinking of buying one of these (FMD-200P) and wondered if anybody out there had used one for watching DVD's and playing PS2 games and if they were impressed. Also does anyone know of any decent online reviews for it. £300 is a lot of dosh for a toy, but I like my toys.
I think you may get a better response to this in the Hardware Forum.
Moving...
I can't tell you about this specific model but I used to work in the VR industry and I've had some experience with headsets and stereo display glasses. They are pretty good but don't buy blind (excuse the pun).
My experience of using this kind of display was they were fine for a few minutes but very quickly got tiring and disorientating.
When you're playing first person games you'll find the movement quite overwhelming. I honestly can't imagine watching a whole movie through this kind of display.
In my experience of putting headsets on lots of people, some people can't deal with it at all, I suspect their brains don't make the necessary jump to "seeing" a 50 foot display that's actually half an inch from their face. Other people could happily wear them for ages, take them off (and not fall over or puke on their shoes).
You really need to try these out before you make a decision to spend £300. Try to get a full demo so you can watch a bit of DVD and try some games or they may end up gathering dust.

Good advice. And they sell these at Argos, so you can probably make use of their 16 day money back guarantee to give yourself a proper long demo.
