its for a present - I have the gear to print the disc and cover on my ip4000 so should look ok but I dont know how to go about getting the files to be played on any bog standard DVD player

There will be probably 8 to 9 files ranging from 20 minutes of a day out to just over an hour of a birthday party - in total probably just on (maybe even slightly over) 4 hours

How do I go about getting these to play on a DVD - would require a menu allowing an individual choice of video file

What is the easiest software I could use - ideally after something Wizard and drag \ drop driven as I am non to clever with doing this

Dont really have it in me to convert etc myself so could so with something that does it for me

Download the try before you buy version of ULEAD Video Studio 9. It is an easy to use package.

You will need to convert them into compliant mpeg1 or 2 files before dvd author will accept them. If they are only short clips convert them into dvd compliant files (mpeg2?) using tmpeg encoder then use them in author. I convert to mpeg 1 (vcd) files for a lot of our home movie stuff, as you can get hours and hours on one dvd-r!

Are you using XP sp2 if so you can d/l this if you do not already have it.

Windows Movie Maker 2 (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx)
Use it to capture the video then build a dvd with menus using Nerovision Express.

I have not used Windows moviemaker so may stand corrected. Nerovison I have and it is very easy to create a basic menu and chapters.

From what Ive looked at, these one job programmes dont have the speed or quality of a superb encoder like tmpeg.

Honestly..its dead easy to make a dvd by encoding first then authoring separately.
