Hey,

Caught OUATITW yesterday at the Curzon Soho. I hadn't seen the film for many years and to catch it on the big screen was amazing. I'd forgotten how good a film it is, engaging, emotional, Morricone's music is so engrossing. The print was a little off in places, the soundtrack wasn't perfect but the film is wonderful. I've seen The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on the big screen but this surpasses even that. Now I know why Charles Bronson is a star(could never really work it out during the Death Wish years). Catching these films at the cinema is an experience that even DVD can't match(blasphemy) :-)

I've got a new favourite Leone film. We really need these on DVD but I wonder if this and ...in America need to be remastered before being released. Anybody know anything? Also 'Fistful of Dynamite' DVD?

Think I'll go listen to the soundtrack again.....

Anthony.

Well actually both America (Brazilian, r0, Full Frame 1.33:1) and West (Italian, r2, anamorphic 1:85.1 (i.e. it's cropped)) are out on DVD however I'd recommend waiting...
Hell if you've just seen West in the cinema then count yourself a lucky man! :D

Though maybe not as lucky as me! :o :p

Yeah,

I managed to miss those at the NFT last year. :-( I'm sure there'll be other opportunities though. :-)

Might take a look at the Brazil DVD although might just get the VHS to see ...America again. Have to see if there's a widescreen VHS available in the US. Upgrade when the DVD is eventually released. ...West Hmm. Think I'll wait 'til next year.

On the topic, anyone know what's the transfer quality of the UK R2 Dollar films? GBU was one of the first DVDs I got from the US but never got around to the Dollars. Think it's time to expand the Leone collection. :-)

Thanks,

Anthony.

I've got the r1 FoD and FaFDM both non-anamorphic (as is r2) and so-so - FoD been marginally better.

GBU is anamorphic and far better because of that, I was happy with it until I heard that Tonino Delli Colli (the DoP) was non plussed with the transfer quality! Ignorance is bliss I guess :(
