I'm having trouble deciding whether to buy the current 2 disc release of Pearl Harbor and from which region. Could anyone answer the following questions:

1) The only significant difference between the current R1 and R2 versions seems to be that the R1 has an additional 45 minute documentary and a DTS soundtrack. I was considering the R4 version but can't find any information about it or when it's out. Does anybody know when the R4 version will be released?

2) Will the director's cut release (which is due out next year) contain the theatrical cut of the film? The reason that I ask is that although the director's cut will contain some additional scenes, I think it will also omit some scenes that were in the original theatrical cut.

If you like the film yes!

I think the only main difference between the r1 and r2 is that the former contains a DTS soundtrack. I've also heard that the r2 film isn't split over two disks - but I have no evidence.

The directors cut DVD won't contain the theatrical cut, hell it's already up to 4 disc without that option!

I was gonna hold out - but 6 months! Pah! Far too long - beside I'd have gotten my £16.99s worth come May when it time to upgrade :p

I have just bought Pearl Harbour R2, and can confirm that it is indeed on one disk. The extras are on disc two.

The R1 release has a very smart case. It looks like a book and the material is not plastic. It is almost like a book. Excellent THX approved tracks, the DTS is outstanding.

R2 is definately film on one disc, extras on disc 2.
The thing that stands out for me is the quality of the enclosed booklet. Brilliant! I cannot recall any other DVD with such a good booklet as part of the package.

Just put the R2 version on and for the first time on a DD5.1ex disc, my Sony 1070 has recognised the 6.1 format automatically, will do it with DTS 6.1 but never DD, nice surprise.

I would say get the R2 without question - film all on one disc rather than spread over two, a sturdy Amaray case instead of those carboard fingerprint-nightmare jobbies. Yes, i know there's no DTS, but the 5.1 sound channel is amongst the best i've ever heard. Who cares about a decent script when those fighter planes are giving your system the best workout it's ever had? This is a definite future demo disc. :D
