Hi all,

Have just got a dvd rw drive and am now sufficiently baffled by all the dvd-r +r etc etc. (I knew that there were different media types but having a CD writer previously meant I haven't taken an interest before!)

I want to transfer some film from digicam to dvd that will work in any player - and think I am most of the way there in that camcorder/pc are talking to each other via firewire. First go with a RW (I opted for the coaster prevention route) and in pc drive it works happily and fires up powerdvd. Doesn't work in a standard dvd player though.

Can anyone offer some advice? Should I use +/- R media to increase the chances of compatibility? Is this the problem? Final question - any recommendations for authoring/capture software?

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

Have a look somewhere like here. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

Unfortunately there is no 'universal' acceptability for a particular format.

However the most compatible IMO is DVD-R and, as I understand it, the disc must be finalised. i.e. 'open' or multisession discs generally will not be read on domestic DVD players AFAIK.

Can't really advise on the software front as I have only made one or two DVD's specifically for playback on a normal player. For those I used http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html IIRC.
