This guy has just had his auction fail.

eBay (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-9479574?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D7163856626%26rd%3D1%2C1,1%26sspagename%3DSTRK%3AMEWA%3AIT%26rd%3D1)

How many deiberate mistakes can you spot (in what I have no reason to believe is not a genuine, honest, auction)?

You lot are so thick! Isn't it obvious?

"amazing spec gears"

He's missed the full stop after "spec" (it's an abbreviation).

Perhaps the OP is referring to the stupid questions from potential buyers rather than mistakes by the seller?

Wouldn't have thought so otherwise he would have mentioned questions rather than mistakes. Anyway come back qpw3141 and clear it up for us, please?

Well, I'm truly surprised that no one spotted anything. (when I said "deliberate mistakes", I was using it in its normal, idiosyncratic way, meaning 'mistakes').

I was talking about 'mistakes' in the sense of things that would tend to stop people bidding on that auction.

BTW, a Cannondale in that condition at is (probably) a very desirable piece of kit, and I would have expected it to go waaaay higher.

Here are the annoyances that might have put people off buying.

1) Two different locations specified, Wirral and London, and a rather 'smart' reply when someone asked where it was. (Remember this is a collect only item, so you really do need to be sure).

2) Collect only - it's very easy to send bikes by courier, and not *that expensive*. This limits his marketplace.

3) Paypal only - ??? WTF. If you have to collect it, why not allow cash? A lot of people wouldn't touch paypal with a bargepole and you need to set up an account *just to bid*.

4) Payment must be made within 24 hours - Against ebays T&C's I understand.

5) Using a photograph of a new item to illustrate a used one.

6) Telling people not to ask questions about the spec. Some bike specs are pretty arcane, and if you're not familiar with the brand, you might need something interpretted.

7) Going away four days before the auction ends so you will be unavailable to answer any questions - especially with the cheeky "payment in 24 hours" requirement. And he doesn't even say when he'll be back.

I was seriously interested in that bike, but his offhand attitude to his potential customers really put me off.

There's hardly any call for the police.

It was only himself he inconvenienced. A bike like that should have achieved far more.

I just thought it interesting that it was such a classic example of someone being their own worst enemy, and failing to help themselves.

Why would one use ebay to buy something as important as a bike? You need to see it and feel it.

I sold my other halfs bike not long ago. Specialized Hard Rock FS Comp, only 2 years old, ridden no more than 70-100 miles. Chucked in some bits and pieces to make it look like a bargain. Added some detailed photos and answered all questions in record time. It cost me £500+ and only sold for £120. Problem with second hand bikes is theyre second hand.

I sold my GT I-Drive on ebay, it cost me £700 ad I sold it for £500. Not sure why I'm telling you that! Out of the things that you mentioned it's only the location thing that sounds a wee bit dodgy is the location of the bike. I did like the fact that he said no questions about the spec giving a link where you can find all the answers and still two people were too lazy to go and look for themselves yet could still find the time to ask the seller a question!
