Noticed that the new League One thread has started but couldn't find a generic Championship thread so thought I'd start one as provisional opening fixture lists have been announced (plus as a Luton supporter it feels good to be talking about 2nd division games for the first time in nearly a decade :D ).
We couldn't have got a more difficult opening with an away game at Crystal Palace, then home games to Southampton and Leeds. Still, might be good to jump in at the deep end and get the experience early on of what its like to play ex-Prem clubs!
We're here too!
A great Xmas period with local derbies against Sheff. U and L**ds. Much better than playing Doncaster and the likes of Luton. Ahem ;)

Being a Leeds fan, we've got an 'interesting' opening couple of games with Millwall at home and Cardiff away!

We're here too, sadly, but there's no point looking back on last season! Looking forward to welcoming you to Selhurst on the opening day of the season (our first home opener for about 7 years!) - just hope you don't take the points back with you!

Never mind Xmas Jim
Let us at 'em. Gotta be honest though I'll be happy with a mid table finish!!!
Wednesday second game of the season away! Hopefully Sheffield will sort out the debacle of last season so that we all get in for the kick off. Luton within the first few weeks also. League one back again but with Wolves QPR and others to kick the season off. OUCH....
Up the Tigers.....

Last time we played in 1990 you only brought 500 fans so thats why it took a while to you lot in :)

Come off it!
Dont tell me the club didnt expect a mass of tigers to "pounce" on your lair?
It was a shambles!
I was joking :) No idea what the problem was tbh :( It was nice to see the away end full for a change hopefully no problems in August.
I hope you practise your Amber & Black cards displays for the return visit ;)

I think they have to be very careful about how people are let into the away end at Hillsborough for obvious reasons.

Yeah our League 1 championship season, I think most Argyle fans consider that night one of there fondest memorys of recent times :)
I want a mid table finish this year really, need to sort the away form out majorly but we need to progress from last year, signed some good players so far, mix of experience and youth, i'm quietly confident for a decent season. To be honest a few years ago we were down around the bottom of league 2 fighting for league suvival even with the clubs future in doubt, that's why Sturrock is held with such high regard down here, I honestly think we'll cheer him louder than the wednesday fans when he comes out at Homepark, should be a great atmosphere :notworthy
I want to do a number on Southampton this year also, hammering Luton wouldn't be too bad either :D

Wolves are on Sky first game v Saints at St. Mary's - 5.15pm kick off. Woohoo! Though we did lose to Stoke away live on Sky first game last year so not a good omen.
Then Palace at Home on the Tuesday, and Hull at home the following Saturday which I'm looking forward to. Always liked Peter Taylor and it's a return to Molineux for Keith Andrews who they've just signed. Then away to both Leeds and Dave Jones' Cardiff.
It seems a few teams are getting tough starts this year.

Well what a day (apart from the rush to get there and coming back through the roadworks near Heathrow ;)). Was slightly dreading today what with Luton's defensive injury concerns (especially with Johnson staying at Palace) and Beresford being out but the new lads played excellently (Morgan and Heikkinen in particular).
After the penalty miss I thought we threw our only chance to take anything from the game, but seems the ref's cock-ups went our way in the 2nd half. Glad we got the Palace game out of the way early as they'll no doubt be on form within a few games.
With Watford losing too its been a very enjoyable day, lets hope it continues! :D
how bad was the ref in the shefu v lychester game? shockin decisions, was almost like playing away at old trafford or ibrox up here
ahhh u Luton scumbags

Agree that the ref made some howlers today but you still deserved the win. Whilst it was obvious today that we have some quality players at this level, it was also obvious that they are not fully fit and are going to take a few games to adjust to the different style of play in this league.
Only real positives for me today were that Johnson is off the mark already and that our weak points have been exposed already whilst the transfer window is still open and we can do something to rectify it.
Whilst I was under no illusion that this season would be anything other than a tough battle with some other very good sides for what we want to achieve, I'm sure that some fans were believing the hype too much, particularly after keeping hold of AJ. I'm sure we all now appreciate the reality of our situation.

Well done, fully deserved the 3 points off us and I thought your fans were cracking, very loud indeed (louder then any Prem fans I can remember).
whats with the sponsors above the players names now? is this a new rule? will it be in all leagues? noticed it on Sheff utd yesterday and Cardiff are the same.
Does it appear on the replica shirts like that? not sure i like it TBH

We should've beat Saints last night. Too many chances wasted or saved superbly by Niemi.
I though Walcott looked a very talented prospect.

Pah, we weren't saying that for the last 15 mins I can tell ya! We were all just hoping we could keep hold of the draw as the Saints were constantly forcing the ball into the box and causing problems, then Morgan creates a goal out of nothing :notworthy
After Sat I didn't think we get another result like it, but to come from a goal down to win it against arguably the strongest side in the league was amazing. What's encouraging is that I wouldn't even say we were lucky, we created more chances than them up until the last 15 mins. The main difference between the sides was the keepers, Niemi pulled off some stunning saves whereas Brill still looks a bit shaky, coming close to making some blunders. In fairness to him considering how young he is and his lack of experience at even League One level let alone Championship, we couldn't ask for much more really.
Apart from the win the highlight was the bitchy scrap between Morgan and Wise that kicked off about 10 feet from where I was sitting, talk about handbags
Edit - Had to laugh at the Southampton supporters singing "You only beat Crystal Palace..."

Hey it's 6 points closer to safety for you guys, not that I think you'll go down :D
Just really annoyed how the team performed in the second half, we had the game under control playing some good football, then second half everybody went to sleep and we started hoofing it again, geez hurry on back Taribo.
What does everyone think about the attendance of the various teams that got relegated last season. If I were a fan I'd be disappointed that there was a big drop in supporters. Leeds were really bad, I think they only got 20,000!!

Palace had 21,166 for Luton, which was just 3,000 down on last season's average, 4,000 up on our last season at this level and 1,000 more than our lowest attendance last season. I think Palace were quite pleased with the attendance, to be honest. Our lowest attendance in our promotion season was somewhere around 14,000!
Personally I quite like it when Selhurst is a little below full capacity of 26,100. Anything over about 22,000 and it becomes a bit of a scrum inside the stand, but on Saturday it felt comfortable inside the ground without being noticably empty.
Having a smaller ground works to our advantage in this league, because 20,000 seems full at our ground, whereas at Elland Road I'm sure it would seem very empty with the same attendance.
29,910 at Hillsborough on Tuesday Night. For Sheffield Wednesday v Hull

There are numerous factors influencing the attendances at Elland Road this season....jermaine wright being one of the biggest! ;)
Im sure they will all be back if Leeds get any success though

Exactly. Didn't have trouble filling the ground a few years back. Now the club(s) can really do with as many fans as possible and they don't show up

Ummm...isn't it a bit early to judge after just ONE home game of the season?
There were no away fans allowed for Milwall, so that hit attendances, it was live on Sky which will hit attendances, it was a Sunday game which will attendances, its holiday season which hit attendances and the cost of tickets has gone through the roof this season which again will hit attendances
We're pretty much sold out for every game with 25,000+, we've got 20200 season tickets sold this seaspn as well so things are tickety boo
29,910 at Hillsborough on Tuesday Night. For Sheffield Wednesday v Hull
Attendences should drop now we are getting a better team to watch.
Well the inexpierence of youth!
Bright start to our game and then a costly sliup letting in Kenwynne to score, i was going to back him for the first goal but got to the game late
Had a penalty turned down, knew we wouldnt get it, cos it would of meant the ref realising there were 2 teams today and awarded us something instead of giving them everything and when they go down all afternoon like a sack of spuds, which they did today, then as you can imagin, thats quite a lot.
I still think as i did in pre season that we would struggle, our midfield isnt very good, Rocastle is just so naive, he runs round like a kid at school , just chasing the ball and then giving it away when he gets it, but seeing as he doesnt get it that often its not that bad.
Anyhow theres always next week
Apart from the goal there wasn't much in it Slip. I think we will be bottom half but are much improved since the last time we was in this division.

Well not a bad day for us but could easily have been 3 points. First 20 mins was dominated by Leeds, felt like we were running scared and just trying not to concede, but as the game went on the lads grew in confidence and started creating chances by half time. I felt we played better in the 2nd half than Leeds, with everyone except maybe Robinson and Feeney putting in good performances. Had some chances that should have won the game for us but alas it wasn't to be.
Credit to the Leeds fans though, made more noise than we did despite being outnumbered 3 to 1.
7 points in 3 games against 3 ex-Premier sides can't be bad going, never thought I'd see the day when Luton would be top of the 2nd division! :D

They're on their way back to the top division! 3 leagues climbed in around 5 yrs, it's gonna happen ;)

I was a bit peeved when i wrote that the other day
They didnt offer much after they scored because they tended to sit back on the 2 banks of 4, second half all we could offer were long range shots and never looked like scoring.
Last time we were in this league we also had trouble braking teams down and scoring when on top, except at Burnley away when we were already down
We have the midfield provider in Whelen, we just need the ball winner in midfield and dont think that Rocastle is the man for the job.
Also once we start scoring, i think the rest will come, but we need some improvement in that department asap.
Still as upbeat as ever tho

Oh well, our dream starting run has come to an end, now I know how the Southampton fans must have felt a couple of weeks ago! Well done to Stoke for holding on despite going one down so early, certainly helped that Howard got sent off for mouthing off! With this result plus Watford winning (helped by an ex-Luton player no less) its been a crap afternoon, lets just hope things change for the Leicester game.
Suppose the day wasn't as bad as Millwall's though

We we're lucky yesterday, can't deny that at all (still, 3 points is 3 points). Encouraging to see that Showumni is lasting a full 90 mins and still giving his all til the end of the game (even if it is a bit hit and miss at times). Got Millwall at home tommorow, time to dust off the flak jacket ;)
The 10 day break after tommorow's game will be welcomed, the pace of the Championship is clearly taking its toll. Just hope we can maintain the success that we've had til now!

Booby Williamson = the most useless manager ever.
What a disgrace, not one shot on target all game against a 10 man Hull team. The guy has no idea how to organize or inspire a team, and tactics, what tactics, the guy has no idea, a baboon could do better. Funny just like the Hibs fans warned us about :oh-hum:
Time for the board to grow some balls and get rid of him now, otherwise all I see is relegation.
Palace are now starting to settle at this level again. Yesterday we were barely troubled by Stoke and although we were nowhere near 100% we stilll won quite easily. AJ and Morrison linked up superbly for the second goal and seemed to really enjoy playing alongside one another for the last 20 minutes. Kiraly had one save to make in the entire game, although admittedly it was a very good one and would have been an equaliser at the time!
Two week break now because our match at Leeds on Tuesday is off, due to Tony Popovic's international call up (despite the fact he's not even making the bench at the moment!).

Well Curtis Davies is off to West Brom for a Luton club record of £3m! Shame to see him go but it was inevitable, lets hope he can progress and eventually start challenging for a place in the England squad!
Newell has already said that the transfer fee will be used on new players in January, must be the first time in years that we've had that sort of money at our disposal so looking forward to see what comes of it :)

Well another sickener of a result after a promising first half. Looking forward to the full return of Morgan, the midfield seem to be lacking that extra bit of class without him. Fortunately other results went our way except the obvious Watford result, not looking forward to meeting them next year if they stay in this form!
