just noticed that mine actually shipped from amazon.co.uk on friday (been on order since March!!) - has anyone got their copy yet (and was it worth the wait - features/etc)
btw - i also noticed that the cover artwork that is shown on amazon now is the same as on the original UK VHS release which i have
Features are apparently all there (as advertised) but it's lost the widescreen transfer. I'm interested to know if it has the same screwed up 5.1 as the R1 (ie- speech from all speakers).
Not sure whether to get the R2 or not.

Yeah I was shocked to see that the release hadn't been put back and that my order at Play was "processing" Hooray! I've only been waiting since June :brickwall

Mine arrived this morning as well, and only 10 months and 1 day after I ordered it!:D
The transfer seems alright for such an old small film. As for the extras the list that was going around for a while that loads of suppliers were using was just a "wish" list that Maverick had. From what it seems they heard that stuff was about, tired to get it but it wasn't available to them. Same thing about the widescreen print. I'm not sure about the sound, but it could be likely as they did get the audio track from the states.
Oh well at least its here, I was beginning to think I would never see it!
Till all are one!

Is it Anamorphic widescreen?
It ain't widescreen - so it ain't anamorphic!
It's either a Full Frame 1.33:1 or a P&S transfer from an OAR of around 1.66:1.
Either way it's probably gonna be the best version available for the foreseeable future.

Does it beat the already released R1 though ?.

Either way it's probably gonna be the best version available for the foreseeable future. This is a great shame, i was only going to get this if was in widescreen (anamorphic or not). So i'm going to strike this off my list until they bring out a widescreen that's clearly avaible.
Well, I took the plunge this morning (and now have both R1 and R2 Transformers).
Picture: Both 4:3. The R1 absolutely trashes the R2 for picture. R2 is a bit murky. R1 was remastered and absolutely glows. Unfortunately, one chapter of the R1 wan't remastered so for a few minutes you get the dodgy picture.
Sound: Both 5.1. R1 plays the same sound through all speakers though (including all the voices). R2 sound quality seems a little lower but doesn't have the bugs of the R1.
The R2 extras are far fewer than expected.
Japanese Transformers episode
Trailer (this IS in widescreen annoyingly and looks better than the movie).
Still gallery accompanied by music
Introduction to Transformers (about 3 minutes).
Bit dissapointing really but I'd still take the R2 over the R1. The picture is not as good but it scores over the R1 in every other way.
Was it offically released in uk today???
Or is it next week?
I'll get it in mvc if has
Officially today I assume. The online stores have it now and I got mine from my local WH Smiths.
Also, I just watched the Japanese episode on the disk. Worth the price of admission alone. Without a doubt the worst dubbing in the history of moving pictures (and absolutely hilarious with it).

How much did you pay for it?
£15.99. I think that's the standard retail price. Bit of a spur of the moment thing to buy it really.

I dunno, from the sound of it the picture of the R1 is far better and the sound is pretty much on par, so I'd go for R1 to loose a couple of crappy extras (they're not exactly astounding).
Is it only the extras that favour the R2? Are you comparing this to a re-released R1 or the original R1?
I was really looking forward to a W/S release too :(
Boooo!
The problem with the R1 is that the sound, while not bad quality, is effectively mono rather than 5.1.
And this is the original R1. Has there been a rerelease?
I thought perhaps the R1 had got a re-release along with the R2 but obviously not. Sorry, I wasn't quite clear about the sound - I thought the R2 still featured this bug as well. In that case R1 prolly is the better of two evils

R1 is 5.1 Duplicated Mono.
R2 is most proberly the same.
The reason behind this is that you need the mono audio separates to create a real DD5.1 remix from mono, these are not always available (lost, destroyed etc)
The R2 isn't duplicated mono like the R1. For a start the speech is set in the centre speaker. The sound isn't great though. Sounds more like a medium quality prologic track. I certainly couldn't detect any rear splitting.
