Hi all,

I currently have the Cambridge Soundworks (Creative) Desktop Theatre (DTT 2500), and it's just starting to confirm my thoughts that I need a new amp/speaker set up (The volume control's playing up, plus I want a better system - I've had my 'intro' to DD5.1!! ;) )

Now, I can't afford to go out and buy a new receiver/amp, speakers and a sub, so can I get a new DTS amp and use it with my current little Creative cube speakers? I know they're not great, but will it still work?

Then, at a later date, I can go out and buy a proper set of BIG speakers and Sub.

Are there any particulars I need to look out for on an amplifier which make it better/worse for little speakers as opposed to proper speakers later on?

Also, what amp shall I go for? (I'm looking at the low end of the market - no more than £300) a 30 second look at richersounds shows me: Marantz SR4200 or Kenwood KRF-9050D or Yamaha RXV520RDS and so on

I think I'm making sense - anyone any advice for me?

Forget about using a 'proper' receiver with those speakers.

Yeah I know Baps - but I just want to tide myself along for a month or so. I wanna know if it'll just work OK.

(oh yeah - I'd like the receiver in silver too please to go with my silver dvd player/tv/PC :D )

How much are you looking to spend at the most? As separates can be purchased for less than you might think. What about a used system? There is always somebody upgrading in here. (Maybe even me!)

£300 may get you a reasonable setup which you could upgrade at a later date. Or you could go for the Digitheatre 5.1 which is going for £149 at the mo.
